Thinking of leaving the furry fandom (need help and opinions) by Altallo
Hi All
Not been having the best of times I admit. FA is being silly (who's surprised?) and things there have been really frustrating. There's been petty fighting here which I can ignore most of the time, though bit difficult when someone tries dragging you into the fray (and kicking you afterwards for wanting nothing to do with it).
Additionally I feel like I am going nowhere with my writing. I write and put effort into what I do and I feel like I'm talking to a wall with them, especially when they get pushed aside by pulp or the ebbing waves of the brony tsunami (when will it end?). I'm bored of the art and writing of FA, its gone too commercial and samey. Its kind of sad, there's no more self-expression and just same old auctions and copy-paste designs.
Also I feel like a real outcast. I'm not like the usual furry and therefore am considering leaving the fandom. Does this mean I won't visit Weasyl? No. This isn't a furry site but an art site for everyone to use. Will I stop writing? Of course not! I began this project and I will see it through to the end and beyond.
It just means I might not be active a lot on FA. And that for me is a tough choice as I have lots of friends there. They mean everything for me. The admins can collapse into ruin for all I care for, as long as I can have friends and have at least one person reading what I create, then that would be great. But the site is crappy and in need of repair; everyone agrees
so...what do I do? :o

Well it is hard for me experience all of the fandom :o I'm in an isolated place. And FA does suck. I wish someone would give it a makeover and a clean up
And I do write for myself, but I dunno I still feel like I'm talking to a wall :x

I know big FA is mean to you, but "leaving" won't really solve everything. Also, I think you forgot something I told you before : write for yourself, and not for the others (unless it happen that you're writing for someone else through a request or something, in this case it's a lil' bit different). I know, it's not fun when work you put so much effort to write don't get all the attention expected :(-
aye I don't think I will leave. I wrote this during a down period :o
still wouldn't help to Exterminate some stuff on FA D:

Just do what's best for you dude :)
If you need a break, go for it.
If you want to leave, but want to keep in touch, that's good too.just, when it comes to art and writing, you got to do it for yourself. I know I do some commissions, but i don't plan to draw personal stuff.
And FA is weird sometimes, but i think that's the Internet in general ^^

I think this is a reasonable decision on your part. Sometimes it's best to leave a place like that behind.

I do my best not to get myself drawn in, just difficult when someone's tugging at your leg :o

A bit late to the party here, my apologies.
I could be wrong (it's happened before), but, it sounds like you may not even be a "furry" at all. Rather, someone who simply likes the idea of anthropomorphism.
Sounds absolutely crazy, right?-

Have you tried posting your writing to SoFurry? To me it is generally better suited for writing, since it originally started out as a furry writing site but has since then expanded to all merits of artwork, be it writing, images, music or anything else you could think of. I guess you'll have a broader audience if you post on there. I believe many still see SoFurry as a writing driven art site because it started out that way :)

I did, but they were pretty much ignored there or else attacked by a stalker account for "Not being adult"

yep. Its ok though. Ever since I left the site I've felt better :)
I didn't have any friends there anyway.

Well, I wouldn't have given two flying fucks about someone getting into an argument with me over my content not being porn. There's so much of it there he would have found it with literally no effort. No reason for me to get worked up about it or leave a site or community.

It sounds like your real beef isn't with furry so much as it is with FA. Which is admittedly a huge chunk of the fandom, but not all of it!
I can feel you on feeling underappreciated with your work, sometimes I'll upload stuff and wonder why more people don't like it. But at the end of the day it's more important to create for yourself first. If you do that, and it really satisfies you, then it won't sting nearly as badly when the faves don't rain down.
