Idk what exactly to say but I feel like talking about OCs (mine and others) BASICALLY ALL THE TIME. But struggle to find much to say when asked to say anything.

I AM CURIOUS as to whether you have characters outside your usual plotline or set scene? Like do you have any fantasy-set characters or fan characters? I see a ton of cop story and the like but it would be cool to hear about characters you haven't shown as much. <:

Nah, not really... I mean sometimes I go "oh, it'd be cool to have a character who's a Time Lord" "oh, it's be cool to have a character who is a wizard or a werewolf" but when I start thinking of them after a couple of tweaks they end up in Cop Story and their origin disappears or becomes some ridiculous reference. I tried having multiple projects or characters-just-for-random-doodles before and there's nothing wrong with it but it's not for me.

In a way it sucked back when I was RPing - my friends were always all " hell yeah, supernatural stuff!!" and I don't really find most supernatural themes that thrilling, to be honest, so I kept being left out until they completely ditched me. Though I don't think it was the reason.

What about you? I'm guessing you might have some characters like that, most people do?

And there's still a bunch of characters I haven't shown much but they are all Cop Story -related. I try to draw everyone more or less regularly when possible but let's face it, with over 50 characters it's not really possible. But when I'm not drawing comics about someone I try to sneak them in doodles ASAP.

Ahh, man, I'm still in the rpin' business. Though at lot of the time while there can be supernatural/fantasy themes I keep my characters pretty human still. Which is weird because in tumblr everyone is like a royal demon or some powerful character so throwing my characters at them is sort of like attacking a monster with a like a blow-up sword.

I HAVE FAN CHARACTERS. I have two skyrim ocs that i've actually gotten p invested in. And a lot of my characters based in fantasy-type settings, though since I made them I've toned it down a bit as they developed.

Skyrim seems fun but I don't really play games on the computer though my current computer allows it. But yeah, gosh, I can imagine how it can be inspiring! I actually do the opposite - whenever I play anything with remotely customisable characters on 3DS I imagine they are one of my existing characters.

I think... powerful characters doesn't have so much to do with supernatural in general, it's just most people's natural drive to be "best of the best of the best sir" that some people can't restrict. I've seen it in RPs even with actually decent writers, I'm not even talking about teenagers writing demon warrior princesses or whatever. At some point we came up with this - frankly stupid, I think now - idea to write up stats for our characters like in proper tabletops to be able to write fights and such better and I always tried not to overpower my characters but also to keep it more or less level. And people actually said to me "oh, Nutter can't be strong, Nutter can't be smart, he's a bigoted alcoholic who doesn't exercise!" and basically tried to lower stats I intentionally kept not very high to begin with. And their characters naturally were all fit and smart and level-headed, and let's be honest, how many real people like that are there?

I'm sort of... considering RPing now but never seem to find the time for that and well, honestly, I'm afraid that people won't want to talk to me any more after they RP with me because it already happened twice so I dunno. Maybe it's me who's the problem here.

            • Link

SKYRIM IS PROBABLY MY FAVOURITE GAME. Or at least one of them. I still need to play oblivion and all the other tes things but Skyrim and the Skryim fandom has been p inspiring to me.

Yeah, it's hard to keep characters realistic. Even with characters that I have that are ridiculously overpowered compared to 'human' characters, I try to keep it realistic and even tone it down depending on who I'm rping with to make sure that I'm not 'godmodding' at all. For example I have Mitchett who's pretty much immortal on a basis that his body rebuilds and revives itself after death and he has pretty decent mindcontrol/reading powers. However he's got a ton of mental/social issues that cause him to never really be bothered by anything people do enough to use it, as well as it being also vaguely unpractised on 'humans' or higher creatures so he'll struggle a lot more with it than he would with say, controlling an animal to do something simple.

Well, I reckon you should try it out! I made a ton of rp blogs on tumblr and they've been pretty neat - and there's a lack of interesting humans that I think your characters could definitely help with. Though private Rp is probably waaaaay more comfortable if you're newly coming back to it. ;o; I'd offer to rp with your ocs because even with my fantasy characters I can easily shove in a realistic modern setting.

              • Link

Yeah, yeah, totally! I mean it's okay for characters to have some superpowers if their setting allows it but the thing is, I don't really know anyone who would have only strong sides, everyone has something that barring them from something and a lot of people ignore it and it's sort of understandable because a large aspect of fiction for a lot of people (not me though) is forgetting about life with all its issues. It just gets hard to write alongside such people for someone who's more critical like me. I guess the key is finding people who have similar ideas on writing and such... except I thought I did and turns out not really.

And man, thanks for the offer! I really can't right now (mostly simply for time issues, I have to plan my time carefully to get through May, honestly) but you know, someday, definitely! And I don't think tumblr format (at least the way I've seen it) is for me - my writing is mostly dialogue-based and is usually in third person because honestly most of my characters are not perceptive or articulate enough to make first-person writing interesting.

I am occasionally amused by the idea of making some kind of blog from my OCs' points of view but I don't think it's worth the effort for a bunch of reasons.

                • Link

It's fun to be critical and realistic about my own characters - I find that in doing os it helps develop how they are and how they interact with others and how they'll develop in the future. Though I could see where people would like to be unrealistic and just have fun with their characters, which is a-okay because it's theirs aha.

Ahha, well, I've got no time limit so whenever you feel like it you can just shoot me a note or somethin' and we could figure it all out. <: Yeah, Tumblr isn't something I started out with in terms of rp at all - though it doesn't ever have to be in first person. Most if not all of my writing is pretty much third person aha.

I tried doing that but then they just turned into 3rd person type rp blogs whoops.

I've just moved into my new (and first) house after a skint of homlessnessness and stayage at Hostels, I've just been going through a box of old art my parents kept, and they've kept literally everything since 2008. Actually one box I'm going through I'm using to put my laptop on so it's low enough to snag the free wifi from downstairs (BT Broadband buddies~ Free WiFi~) but looking through it I've found the references of 'Spice' a Himalayan rabbit who's usually wearing some eye concealing glasses or a face concealing mask for 'afterdark' affairs. I could talk about any hundred characters I've came up with for a number of comic ideas I've had (Box contains a few, including fully printed scripts, cover art sketches, cast listings, story arcs etc, if I wasn't an amateur for the length of time I've made this, profilic would've been a good description.)

Spice is also an adaption of an even earlier character, whos' character bio is so bad I don't want to ever show it to a living soul. But current adaption is running a store called 'Spices of Life' that sells continental cooking ingredients and oddly enough Spices, with adult toys being sold in the backroom. (One ref found being: https://31.media.tumblr.com/0621ed3382abe6ce6fdfceac8d1aab64/tumblr_n3zqc3tEGE1sfgh0bo2_500.jpg )

Currently I've been writing scenes for Aberdork (Webcomic eventually to be published, eventually) for other obscure characters, Dr Quintel, a sadistic swan I'll be having art posted up of her doodles in a lab notebook ("Maybe I need a bigger drill" being a tip off and a warning to avoid Neuroanatomist who say such phrases.) and a collection of a different group of Doctors in an entirely different building sitting around eating lunch. (Snow Leopard Twins, a Polar Bear and an Arctic Fox; respectfully, Dr Nite, 'Nurse' 'Angel of Mercy' Dywn, Dr Krukov and Dr Ivanovich. All of which have dark pasts, are incompetent to various degrees and trying to backstab one another but not in a way that uh draws attention to the entire group of medical misfits working at the local Mental Hospital. Running gags I have planned are Dr Ivanovich turning up after Dr Nite informs the other two how to properly take care off him, and Dr Y. informing them all of why it's not going to work "As soon as my heart stops beating, I doubt you'd be able to synthize the antidote before succumbing to modified Nile Fever that'll be unleashed." or "I doubt you wouldn't be able to run far enough from the cops once my pacemaker doxes the lot of you to the respective authorities at Interpol." and the occassional running jokes on how Dr Nite isn't actually a Doctor vs Dr Krukov who majored in Soviet Psychiatry, then fled to France to study Psychanalysis, before making it to a more widely respectable instition to learn medicine, and references to Nurse Dwyn smelling like Poppies; ie what Morphine is made from.)

Downside is I've planned to do a lot of writing but I've premptively given the webcomic a 'structure' similar to dead tree print comics; https://docs.google.com/document/d/1O8MFWgw4YsEqlvy7lDm8hBZGEONIHocZJ79Z6UX2Ja4/edit?usp=sharing note: I've not planned to write in Dr Quintel till 'Season 2' which loosely involves firing the clay brain of a golem (which was the villian in the 'ill fortune' arc featuring 'Facade'.)

Also I have you on skype, so I'm free to talk when my connection isn't hindered my a layer of concrete shielding.

OOhhhh finding old things of characters is one of my favourite things about clearing through my old stuff.
And yeah, I have similar things of ''no-one must know''. I still have the first drawing of Tobias and it brings about the worst kind of cringing whenever I think about it.
Ahh, all these things sound really cool and I wish I had more time to respond to them before I shoot off to work pff- Doctors who aren't real doctors are the funniest kind of doctor I swear. In fiction at least.

Aha I like this. Organising things into chapters should be a thing that I do - so far my tactic has been to write in non-chronological order whatever I feel like and then patch it up with everything else afterwards. Write everything novel-style and then maybe draw it in a coupla of years when I get around to finishing it pffff-
I HAVE NOT BEEN SO SOCIAL ON SKYPE for dumb personal reasons but if you shoot me a message any time you're able to i'll be guaranteed to respond to it as soon as I can. <:
