You can always try local charities :) I've donated to charity:water, and am hoping I can contribute to Heal the Bay or the Ocean conservancy, soon. Some aquariums also let you 'adopt' a creature for a year to help get money to take care of them.

Oh! You can also see what you can do for local schools. Since in a few months the back-to-school season will start, a lot of schools might need extra supplies (paper and the like). So you can contribute to one like that, too. :D

Yeah, I'd definitely second local schools. They need it!

I agree worth the local thing, because most local places barely have the funding to keep themselves open, let alone advertise. I do donate to a bat charity from time to time, but really the best you can do is find a cause you agree with and do your research.

Avoid the ASPCA, Humane Society for the most part (some local ones are okay, but donating to the actual company is not a good idea) and anything that generally uses a lot of advertising, especially the ones that show pictures of sick animals and people just to make yout feel bad. They tend to be for profit, despite what they say and spend most of your money on paying themselves and commercials, not to mention the questionable practices of both the ASPCA and humane society. One that I also like to donate to is the World Food Programe as they focus their efforts not only on giving needy people food but also on giving them the resources to get food for themselves!

    I hope that helps!
