I love ideas and prompts and pretty much the idea of biodiversity. I'll throw three at you and see which one sticks.

1. Iguana gunslinger. -> Either Wild & Strange West (Mad Science Spagetti) or Noir Gris setting. Typography can play into this.
2. Stork Ranger. -> No-Magic Fantasy or Renaissance. Horror and Madness can play into this; suggesting prolonged isolation.
3. Beetle Mobster. -> Or an Accountant. Slick Threads, ennui mood or otherwise looks preoccupied like the hanged man tarot of raider waite.

For character designs, I often stress costume/fashion and setting/environment. Which is why I'd probably want to throw time periods or genres at you, 1930s Fashion was pretty different in France than in New York even when Art Deco was vogue, I'd hit up Wikipedia and find the category page for fashion period and look into what you can find and takes you interest.

I quite like Alexander MacQueen's work, but some of it is frightening and other select pieces is truly awful. (The 'Bumster' in the online retrospective comes to mind, as given the texture of the mannikin it looks like 'skid marks' for a low hanging skirt.) I also really like masks, and have made a mood board of things that take my interest, but I want to make something with a Celtic theme (I always seem to do)

Maybe look at Capybaras? They're hella cute and I don't see anyone using them, which is a shame.

Insects? Bees, moths, butterflies, dragonflies, mantis... I'm looking forward to Spring and all the bugs I'll get to see (and some I'm not so happy about -- mosquitos and wasps).

Servals, chubby lizards (blue tongue skink?),.. ermines, Chinese water deer, Tasmanian tiger, and alpacas? Maybe something that ties with Honeydews (or just flowers in general, or a touch of spring.. something like a field of flowers?) You also could do something with crystals? >w<
