Looking for advice, Surface pro by RUDE

hey guys, my tax return just ame in and I've been mulling over getting a new computer.

My brother as offered to help me build a new PC to suit my needs artwise, and i'll probobly end up doing that either way.
But I have enough money right now to invest in a tablet PC for art (beyond my motion LE) and I really like the idea of being able to work on art without having to return to home base to finalize it.

I've been mulling over the surface pro and surface pro 2 . It would be nic to save money and spring for the earlier model, but if the pro 2 is really worth my time i might concider it.

though I figure i'd ask around in hopes of anyone who either knows from experiance, or just plain knows their tech. keep in mind my primary program is sai. and from what i have heard it has a few hiccups here and there

Sai is has some problems on the Surface. It is an old piece of software and doesn't support high resolution displays so all the menus come out tiny. Much better are Photoshop, Artrage and Manga Studio/Clip Studio Paint. You can find the Pro 2 used in the ~700 range. It certainly turns heads I'm personally satisfied with it, especially as a device for taking notes in school and reading papers to annotate. I prefer drawing on the surface to using an Intuos for sure.

However the hardware isn't perfect. I read about a product called the Samsung Ativ Q which seemed like my dream device: it was Samsung+Wacom hardware with a larger screen and dual Windows and Android OS. That would help with the fact that Windows Metro apps suck. Although that particular device seems to have been canceled I'm hoping that something else that entices me more will come out this year. I've also heard that Windows is planning to come out with the next version of their OS in the near future. In other words, I recommend if you purchase the Pro 2 you should consider that you may want to sell it and get another device fairly soon, so be sure to get the receipts. (On the plus side telling this to people is good Craigslist haggling tactics.)

about how near a future we talking? I may wait in that case. also while i still need to try messing with it do you know how well kirita works on it?
I can live without top of the line products. I just want something that lets me do what i want. without too much hassle.

I'm talking about a timeframe of 1 year to 18 months. My understanding is that Windows 9 will come out around April 2015. Don't get me wrong, the SP2 is a well functioning piece of hardware right now, I just expect the top of the line to improve dramatically.

        What is Kirita?

and ok, i might just go with it then if it's going to be that long of a wait. do you think the surface pro 2 is worth the extra money? or would i be better off just going for the surface pro?

I just tried it out and found it to work pretty well, very speedy. Pressure and the pen button worked off the bat. I could use touch to pan but not zoom or rotate the canvas. The only thing I found was that I couldn't use the eraser, but since the tablet pen button brings up a tool menu it wasn't a big hindrance.

Disclaimer: I've never used a Pro. However, my understanding is that biggest difference between the Pro and Pro 2 is in the battery life. I carry my Surface around all day so any less battery life than the Pro 2 wouldn't cut it for me. However if your main plan is to sit while plugged in the Pro wouldn't be that much of a downgrade, and with units going for $400 they really are a steal. (Do get at least 128GB though. The used ones also often come with a keyboard cover of some sort. A cover turns it from a tablet into an actual portable computer.)

I tend to do both actually, though I figured they all had the keyboard? but this sounds like a good plan
