I always have a prejudice for cinema remakes. Especially ones that are remakes of past successful films. Like the latest remake of a Verhoeven sci-fi classic Robocop. A few years ago, they remade one of his movies Total Recall and it bombed. It was literally the same except with the differences of settings and outcome. So, when I heard they remade another one of Verhoeven's flicks, I started to just hate it already. And then I went and see it just tonight.

And.....

....it wasn't bad at all.

Usually, remakes are a huge gamble. Most have been awful since they are pretty much the same, but some have proven to be ok on their own merit. This version of Robocop has stand out from the original. They've made some major changes and yet still throw in a few familiarizes from the original like the theme song and some of the most famous one liners. I did enjoyed this movie while I watched it. Even though I still love the original, the remake has stood out on it's own. Don't think I'll buy it if it comes out on DVD or Blu Ray, but if I come across it on TV or someone has it and puts it on, I'll watch it. Even though you won't see much violence and gore in this one as it's PG-13 rated. Ugh. But, the story and characters do make up for it.

I think it's worth at least a watch if given a chance.
