Ask Me Anything! by farorenightclaw

Ever wondered about my process? How i learn new things? Personal stuff about me? Gender questions? Politics? Anything at all about me or my work? Now is the time to ask! i'll answer pretty much anything! Don't be afraid about being rude or nosy - if it's too personal, the worst that'll happen is i'll tell you i don't want to answer it. But i'm okay with pretty much any question!

What does agender mean to you, and how does it affect your social interactions?

    • Link

To me it means not identifying anywhere in the male-female spectrum. i still consider myself to have a gender, but not one that's easily named or described within the limitations of the English language.

Socially it can be interesting. i do present somewhat masculine, if metrosexual/effeminately so. i prefer to be called sir and mister over ma'am and ms or even mx; i like being chivalrous (in a non-demeaning fashion; i'm equally chivalrous to all genders); i wear men's clothing (mostly, i do like the occasional skirt or leggings, but who's to say that's not manly?). People don't usually expect to interact with an agendered person, so it's just easier to give cues for them to interact with me as a masculine one. Doesn't always work though, i'm pre-anything and look quite feminine. The best i can usually hope for is 'assume i'm a butch', which is mostly okay with me too, though i wouldn't want to co-opt that title for myself since i am not one.

      Hope that answers your question!

It does, thank you! Do you insist on strangers using your preferred pronouns, or do you save that for people who interact with you more often?

        • Link

If it's just someone i'm only going to see once, like a barista or cashier, i won't bother, but if it's someone i'm going to be engaging with again/on a regular basis i'll try to get them to use my pronouns.

What is the meaning of life?

    • Link

To improve the lives of others around you, through self-betterment, exploration of your environment, and striving to fight injustice where it can be found, and celebrating the pleasant things when they happen, no matter how small.

  • Link

I've been meaning to ask this for awhile but kept forgetting: How do you handle being misgendered in public, if it happens? Are you able to just shrug it off and ignore it/pretend they were correct? Has it ever happened to the point that it made you angry?

    • Link

It happens almost constantly. Usually i just wince and carry on; if it's a friend that does it, i correct them (gently). Unfortunately right now i just Look Like A Lady so i get treated as one more often than not. It is upsetting sometimes, at which point i usually go home and try to destress.

      • Link

That's understandable. I wish people would just...not use gender pronouns with complete strangers, because they shouldn't make that assumption with people they don't know. xC Gah.

        • Link

yeah, that would be nice. i tend to get really aggressively 'ma'am'ed at because people don't like how alternative/butch/masculine i look, i guess.

Well politics was mentioned so why not; I have a (few) political question(s):

What form of representation is most palatable to you; representative democracy, pure democracy, constitutional monarchy, absolute monarchy, some blending or some other system?

Also do you believe that nation-states as they exists are too large to be effective in representing their citizens or, if there is a failing in that, is it more to do with the governance system and/or those in power than the size of the state?

Also; do you feel that economic systems tend to go hand-in-hand with political systems? And if so which would go best with your ideal government. ^.^

P.S. Sorry if this sounds like a giant civics test; watching too much Crash Course recently. Ask me a few questions in return if you like!

    • Link

i still have little babby political views from just starting to discover what my own thoughts on things are, but i'll do my best.

i prefer a combination of representative and pure democracy, having grown up in Canada. i think true pure democracy risks having a loud majority oppressing a minority's needs; i think pure representative democracy has a tendency for corruption (though all representation forms risk this, really). i really like the minority gov't aspect of Canada's system; the vote of no confidence thing tends to keep politicians in line really well.

i think the issue is probably more with the people in power and the system in place than it is with the size of the state. After all, in theory, a larger state means more representatives, so it should scale up well.

i'm still undecided on economics. It's really hard to find a perfect system; there really isn't one.

It's totally okay! It's something i want to think about more myself.

Those are actually all REALLY good answers ^.^

Believe it or not a little enlightening of myself as well.

Also I didn't knew you grew up here! :D Citizen or passing through?

Are little cheetahs faster than big cheetahs, or do they get faster as they get older?

    • Link

Googling gives no answer. However, cheetahs become effective hunters around 3 years of age, so i'm going to say young cheetahs cannot go as fast as adult ones.

    • Link

Since for the speed of a cheetah the length of its legs and their power as well as the length of its strides is most important, a cub or an adolescent is not as fast as a full-grown, adult animal. In cases of comparison of adult cheetahs to one another - the stronger the legs, the longer the legs, the more flexible the spine, the bigger the lung and heart volume, the faster the cheetah.

What do you think is the appeal of robots or robot characters?

    • Link

To me, it's about getting to be an object while still being animate, sapient, etc. i have a lot of issues with personhood and considering myself a person; i don't identify with the majority of humanity but neither do i identify with having an 'animal spirit' or anything like that because a) i'm not very spiritual and b) i think such things can sometimes tread close to being appropriative of other cultures when a white person claims it. Pretending to be a robot just makes sense to me, i can objectify myself in a safe and respectful manner (sapient robots deserve rights, feelings, consideration etc just like a person would) and disconnect from the parts of humanity that put me off.

As for the wider appeal, i think it might be somewhat similar. The idea of being able to objectify someone without actually taking away their rights or freedoms (or taking them away in a kinky way as desired) has a certain appeal, i think. Also, there are a lot of drawing/writing/idea possibilities for robots that aren't as available, realistically, to standard human or furry characters (such as disassembly, programming, uploading/downloading data directly, hive minds, etc). There's also the aesthetic appeal; some people just prefer a mechanical or technical look over an organic one. Robots also have the option to be single-purpose characters; for example, my bartending robot Dave was made for a single function (though he's since decided he'd rather do other things). In such a way they can be even further objectified (such as in the case of sex dolls), again without necessarily removing the person-like qualities of the character.

      Hope that answers your question!

      • Link

Indeed! I think that makes quite a bit of sense.

42? (Kinda have to ask, you know...)

    • Link

42 is the answer. The question and the answer may not be known at the same time or this universe will cease to exist and be replaced with a another, more bizarre one. This may have already happened.
