Hurricane Sandy - We are ok by ManaPuddingFox

Ok, let's try this again without power going out again. I started a journal Sunday night basically explaining what was happening, that Arthur and I and many other furs will be going through the hurricane, and that we would be ok. Electric went out before that. It DID come back on at one point, but I didn't want to turn it back on in fear it would go back out.

Which it did.

On twitter, and, I must apologize for this, I was definitely scared. I wasn't going crazy, but I did tweet a few times that I was scared etc.

By now you have heard about this Super Storm. I can tell you first hand that it lives up to it's name. This storm, was a beast. NJ and NY were hit the hardest. Luckily, Arthur and I live in a town that is inland enough. We are incredibly lucky, you have no idea. Only a part of our town had flooding, we had trees coming down but not too terrible. We did lose electric, only about 10% of our town had electric after the storm. Traffic lights are off or, gone.

But that is nothing compared to what Sandy did to other places. There are towns, literally destroyed or gone. Yes, just, gone. Beaches and beach side houses, wiped away. These are towns just next to us really. Point Pleasant, gone, destroyed. Seaside Heights, gone. Seeing the pictures now of places we used to go, people's houses, it breaks my heart. As it does to everyone here. We are so grateful that we were not flooded, that our houses are safe, that we are safe.

Most of my friends are fine from what I have seen- most of them are just without power. Which is not good, but even they say it could have been worse. One of my friends, her house flooded and has a ton of damage to it. She even said, though it is bad, she still has a house. We felt terrible for her, she knows who she is, our hearts go out to her and her family.

Wednesday was Halloween, I can easily say it was the worse one for everyone within the state. Nobody thought about the day, how could we? Within our state, we have actually postponed the holiday to Monday, November 5th. I don't know if this will change (I am typing this as of November 1st) or what is going to happen. But I am glad they did that. It is a minimal thing, but it is nice for the kids- after what they have been through. I heard other locations went ahead with their trick-or-treating, but that could not happen here. Arthur and my Anniversary was also Halloween day. Needless to say we did not celebrate and postponed it as well.

As of today, that I type this (November 1st) marked the first day of clean up and restoration. Since the storm till yesterday has been rescue and emergency services. The next stage is to rebuild in the worse of areas. My house currently has power again, no internet (thus why this was posted later then I typed it). But I am fine with this. There is no damage to the house. One tree in the neighbors yard fell at the root, luckily, it fell the other way, missing us, and is laying across their yard not harming anything. However, that is the house were no one lives, the people who bought it are fixing it up to sell. Just another thing they have to take care of I guess. I should take a picture of it. It's kinda neat the way it looks.

As for Arthur's house, it too is unharmed with the exception of both gutters coming undone (but that always happens). His neighbor's trees came down and took the phone line down only. Not too bad. He still doesn't have power as of today, but they are working now in his neighborhood to remove the issues (see next journal). Luckily, his sister in the next town over, which is about 5 minutes from him, never lost power (that town, most of it, didn't. Which is good cause I know a few people who live there. They either lost it for a little or not at all). So they were able to bring their frozen stuff to her house and keep it. He is also charging his stuff at their house and showering there. So the worst part for them is the cold and lack of light.

Overall, we are doing ok. Thank you all who messaged us with best wishes and checking to see if we were ok. We'll be in contact with everyone more later when things start going back to normal.

EDIT: Arthur got power on last night (Friday) and I now have telephone/ internet again.
