Intuos pro? by Meredies

I currently have a refurbished small intuos 5 that I am not exactly too pleased with considering it has defiantly come with it's fair share of bugs. Lundi also has the same tablet and only expressed one bug with me regarding his that doesn't bother him too much (the buttons will randomly stop working unless you unplug it). My biggest issue however is that the wireless on it is beyond buggy. It never worked that great and im' suspicious that either that tablet's wireless plugins are faulty, or, the kit i bought is faulty. Since the kit was brand new it's unlikely it is the problem- but again, this might just be a bug that all intuos 5 have. I have literally been unable to find ANY info about this issue online so...i really have no idea if its faulty or just a bug in the entire line.

Either way...even though i only just bought this tablet last year- i'm already thinking about hitting the market AGAIN for a new one.... which is sad. I'm so tired of constantly having to replace my tablets. Also don't suggest other brands of tablets as I've had problems with all sorts, i'm already looking up alternatives and i know almost all of the other brands, so no need to suggest those to me.

Anyway, has anyone had experience using the new Intuos pro? it's supposed to just be an upgraded version of the 5- better buttons (one of my huggge issues with the current tablet are the dumb button design, the new one actually has clicky buttons which i greatly envy) It also comes with wireless, which strikes me as something that might be a little less buggy? but again i'm unsure. I also am hoping they might have fixed some of the beyond stupid touch features with it. As to why i need wireless is the fact that i use it corded to my desktop while using the wireless on my laptop. i use both computers frequently for artwork and found myself growing considerably annoyed when i want to lay and relax somewhere on my laptop only to have my tablet continuously loose connection to the computer despite it laying RIGHT ON TOP THE KEYBOARD. i have an intuos pro wireless and it works very well for me! sometimes the tablet can be a little finicky connecting to the driver, but thats usually when i forget to charge it or if its been plugged in for awhile

for me its also especially great because i have a running history of absolutely demolishing tablet cords so working wirelessly is a huge plus

    • Link

Me too, which is why i dropped some money on this IN5 last year. The wireless was a huge plus for me but i don't even use it due to this connectivity problem it has....even when it's fully charged it will just randomly turn off- and when it's connected to my main computer the pen just, stops working but the tablet remains on - c - it's rather bothersome considering the main feature i bought it for was the wireless capability...

it's good to hear the Pro seems to have better wireless- How do the buttons work on it for you? are they clicky and feel sturdy? i find the buttons int he intuos 5 flimsy feeling and sometimes they just plain don't work.

      • Link

mmh, the buttons on the pro are very substantial, and while the interface will show up on screen if you lay your arm or slight pressure on the buttons, they wont change any settings unless you very deliberately press them

        • Link

Oh you can actually turn off it showing up on the screen (at least i hope you can still do that, with the drivers i currently have you can at least) And good, i like sturdy buttons- so long as i don't have to finger mash them to get them to work

          • Link

that i did not know! i havent been able to draw digitally much lately so i havent had too much of a chance to explore the tablets functions haha

yeah, a good poke will work on them, no mashing required

            • Link

Awesome, thanks for your input! and yea i got so annoyed by that side bar, just mess around in the settings sometime to turn it off

I do not know anything about this myself, but I am interested to see what others say, because I too am considering getting a Intuos Pro to replace my buggy Bamboo Pen & Touch (the old model, which has been updated and renamed to the current intuos I believe . . .) It's cord is giving out and it likes to stop working sporadically, so wireless sounds like the way to go.

Ah man anything would be better then that - even though i dont like this tablet too much (im just, super picky) Ill be selling it if i get a new one for very cheap, probably 100. Its still in perfect working order and when it's plugged in it works quite well, the issues i dislike are issues most people honestly wouldn't notice

  • Link

I feel like any new tablet is going to be buggy? Maybe you could consider a downgrade.

    • Link

Nah not unless its a different brand. Wacom's older tablets, other then the intuos 3, were rather crappy. i loved the intuos and would gladly buy one off someone if it weren't for the single issue of it's terribly built cord....i do occasionally not draw at a desk and the intuos 3's cord is notorious for going bad quickly if it's not stationary on a desk at all times (two of them went bad on me, even though they did last me a good 4 years each before they did) All new tablets are buggy yes, but what i was asking more or less was whether the bugs that bother me are still there- other bugs don't bother me as much (like drivers going out ect ect) even so, each company consistently upgrades- i wouldn't even be considering buying a new tablet if these issues weren't major problems for me- little bugs i can deal with, big bugs, not so much. I've used all of wacom's older models dating back to the intuos 2, so far, the in 5 is better then most of them- but just has these few bugs that i suspected were resolved since they came out with the Pro only a few short months after launching the IN5 line.

Well, if it ever interests you I have a couple Intuos 3 mediums I don't use too much, one which the cord gave out on me but my roommate was able to fix and reinforce and the other was a hand me down. Would you ever consider trading or selling the one you have now? Otherwise my only other advice would be making sure when using the wireless there's nothing interfering with the signal (other wireless devices). Though for the corded issue I could only think OS compatibility issues or driver issues

        • Link

Hmm no, as i said, i could have just as easily bought an in 3 instead of it. Though i love intuos 3, as i said, the cord will go bad if i own one as i have gone through two. Though, if your roomate did reinforce the tablets cord i may be interested in buying it? i wouldn't trade it since i can sell the intuos 5 i have for a larger profit then what the intuos 3 is worth these days but i could perhaps offer you a price for it if you can garentee the connections inside are a bit more stable then the usual ones. As for the wireless issue yes i have looked up solutions and i actually specially bought all wired devises to try and get around the issue to no avail. I even kept my phone far away, and we are no where near the router int he house. None of these worked so it has be believing it is indeed an issue with the kit i have or the tablet itself (as i mentioned its a refurbished one so there is a possibility that is why it's more buggy) And i actually have no corded issues, perhaps I worded something wrong? When i have it plugged in i have very little issues aside from the buttons randomly ceasing to work. This is not an OS issue since Lundi also has this issue with the exact tablet (he bought his directly from wacom) and he uses Windows 7 while i use 8.

actually it's funny to hear that you experience bugs when the tablet is laying on the computer, because mine will freak out (even the simple corded ones) if it's even a little on top of my computer, sometimes. definitely if it's on top of my keyboard!

I don't mean to imply that you experience them when it's on top though! I was simply reminded of my similar experience haha.

    • Link

I mean I didn't mean to imply that the source of all your problems is putting the tablet on top of the keyboard, but that I was reminded of something that happened to me. haha

      • Link

oh well i don't only experience these bugs when it sits on the computer at all. I do use my laptop a good bit yes, but only sometimes put it on top, then when i do, i put it a top a pillow so its not really touching the computer at all. But like i said, a lot of time it's not even on top of my keyboard- sometimes its at my feet and im drawing from like, 2 feet away from it and it still shuts off a lot.

        • Link

that's what I meant to say by my last comment, that I didn't think it being on top of your computer was the source of all your problems :p well, if you have a truly defective product, I think you may be eligible to send it back to wacom. at the very least, you can sell it on ebay or within the community here. it may be buggy, but someone would appreciate a discounted tablet anyway.

          • Link

Ah i should have mentioned this a little more clear in the journal but when you buy a refurbished tablet through a site like amazon (which is the only place to buy them really) you don't get the usual wacom warranty and they defiantly won't fix it for free. Even when i did have a warranty on my in4, when i tried to send it in for repair they were still going to charge me. Wacom is money grubbing, i've defiantly learned that, which is why im skeptical of dropping another cash load on them for a tablet that most likely won't work for very long.

And oh yes of coarse ill be selling the tablet, no use keeping it if i get a new one? in fact i offered it to someone a few comments up and will likely sell it for a very low price- the bugs are something most people can deal with but im way to finicky about fluidity of my work to stand the bugs.

            • Link

yeah wacom's older products are definitely sturdier and just better overall! I have an old one (from '10? possibly older) and it's amazing, it has buttons n everything, hasn't broke or even deteriorated in all this time. I actually went BACK to it from my new ones which each completely broke within a year haha. (I didn't trash em cause I'm wondering if there's a way to fix em up, but anyway...) the newer versions of the same product don't even have the buttons anymore, which I'd sorely missed.

anyway, I wish you the best of luck in your tablet journey! I'm hesitant about recommending products because I haven't experimented much beyond wacom and monoprice. I hope you are also well in general !!

i just got an intuos pro. im noticing sometimes the buttons will randomly stop working or the tablet will freeze and i have to unplug it. usually i have to restart my whole computer before it works properly again, but sometimes it just will start working again a few mins after i plug it back in. im not sure if its my tablet itself being buggy and needs to be returned or if its the model that has problems. someone else on twitter said his tablet gets buggy sometimes too, maybe its just the model, and theyre pushing crappy product
