Oh heeey! by RedCoatCat

I’m so happy to see people migrating over to Weasyl. I stopped enjoying FA when I resigned as an admin years ago, it just wasn’t fun to share my work over there and when something stops being comfortable for an artist you just stop caring on displaying your work.
I also like that it's pretty easy to maintain two accounts here. So yay I can post humans that no one really cares about ;P

I broke my drafting table utility tray a few weeks ago, well it got damaged further and it's a swiveling, bouncing tray holding on by one screw. Clearly this table was not designed for those that have boobs on their chests because PLASTIC will break(my previous drafting table had a metal tray which seems far superior). Or I need to stop leaning into tables while drawing.
I'm either going to try to make one and bust out the welder...Or order another plastic one online because I'm lazy and have a crap-ton of deadlines.

I'm playing mad catch up with client work due to the computer issues.. Ohhhh fun fun fun fun. Once that's over I will be taking new commissions.

Oh heeey!

It's really kinda cool how much Weasyl is now filled with people. I hope it stays a bit like this :>

    • Link

I do too, I'd like to be positive and think it will. :) This isn't a 'fa is down so I'll reserve my name over there' like that has happened before.

  • Link

Huh, I didn't know you were an FA admin at one point!
Good luck getting your work finished ^^

    • Link

Yaaaah, I really wanted to help improve the site for artists, especially enforcing content rules on artwork fairly.
Sum it up it was disappointing, made me realize when you have a goal to be professional in how you manage administration it can’t work when the owner of it all is only concerned is with popularity!
To me popularity or praise is a fleeting notion, you’ll never have enough and should never be a goal or focus when running a community or ANY kind!
I don't bear any ill will but really that site cannot succeed, all I've seen them do is ruin any chance of improvement and those choices killing the opportunities to turn it around have become worse and worse to the point now the average user can feel the repercussions of them.

Clean slates like weasyl just seem like such better places to allow creativity to thrive.

Wish I could fav this comment =) but I do with the journal then xD
This was what Da followed first what you told in the comment above! BUT the sad reality is that Da turned into this popularity way too. So nowadays if you don't do mainstream arts on that site you will get less feedback than years ago.

        • Link

Oh I so agree with you, DA use to be a great place, I loved it because it wasn't genre or community specific. Now it's bloated, bogged down with adds and kind of dead unless you have a mainstream concept art style or take tons of tasteless nude photos of women.

          • Link

Don't forget crazy cartoony feral arts xD

            • Link

Hey remember drawing yourself as an anime rip off, fruit coloured dog with big hair and holding a hand held weapon in it's mouth totally does NOT make you a furry on DA. I forgot all about the dog everything people! XD

              • Link

                Amen xDDDDDDDDDDDDD

      • Link

        pretty much this!

      • Link

        Sheesh :c
That is the impression I've been receiving for a long time now from many people. Seeking popularity actually leads to the decline of popularity in the end it seems, and I agree, that it shouldn't be the number one goal of building a community. As Qzurr mentioned, I saw it happen on DA too (I used to post there starting when I was 14. 24 now lol)

The clean slate of Weasyl has been doing a lot of artists good so far it seems :)

  • Link

You were Fa admin? :D Good to know hehe GL with work and commissions!

    • Link

Yaaaaah I responded to Teakitsune to why I did it and what my motivations were.
Funny when I was announced with the other admins that joined at the same time I did... Didn't cause a commotion like this did it? XD

  • Link

Good luck with the deadlines then, hopefully it will hold as long as it needs to until you are done

    • Link

Well considering I use my drafting table daily it's more one of those issues it's looks terrible, it's distracting and it's probably not going to hold on much longer. It's really just a catch area for when pencils slide off the table being at an angle (happens frequently when I'm in the 'drawing zone') but it looks AWFUL now that its broken. Oooo Plastic trays >:[

  • Link

Actors break their legs. Artist break their equipment. Noooo stop breaking stuff you need to do the stuff you waaant! It's counter productive!!!

  • Link

i didn't even know you were an admin over there at any point.
probably should've known but i didn't pay attention to a lot of the stuff going on til recently (when it started to effect work and stuff)
i'm hoping i can manage to get my watcher base back over here :< it'd be nice if i didn't have to pop over to FA anymore.

    • Link

I take it as a compliment no one knows or cared I was an admin over there for a short period of time. Really being a good admin means unless you break rules or have concerns about rules users SHOULDN"T have to deal with you. Behind the scene not THE SCENE.
FA is what it is a cardboard empire with no solid foundation or professional motivation behind it. Is what it is! :P

Watch lists are deceiving, several thousand probably isn't active users or users that are patrons(let alone FA refusing to purge dead accounts so most probably ARE dead). I think cross posting is useful as well as smart to do on any site. I still post to DA despite that place is gone down the shitter for years.
Watchlists can be gained by activity on a site, art, journals etc too many people are name sitting rather than building a community (Not saying you are at all) thinking an inactive account will get people watching them. I think people forget it took them years to develop what they THINK the have on FA. Myself rather have a list of a hundred people that actually look at my art than a thousand of mostly dead or inactive accounts.

      • Link

haha! i don't blame you for taking it as a compliment, i'd rather no one know if i was an admin over there either, yieks.

as for posting, yes yes i totally agree, i just don't know if i can afford the long wait to get regular posters back, y'know?
I plan on uploading tons of art here, i just hate half of my old stuff and don't want to post it xDD
So I just need to get my hand drawing again and then i can start posting more often and start building on it :3

        and the sooner the better!

and the comment about how long it takes is super accurate, that's exactly where my mind is, which is probably why i'm feeling impatient. xD it took me 4-5 years to get where I am on FA (steady-ish income and a fairly large amount of people responding to journals and stuff)

I almost stopped reading on "the human art"-part and ran to see where that gallery is.

But yeah, breasts have that habbit of destroying stuff while leaning on them. That is why I wanted to get them removed for so long: always in the way. But the doctors recommend that sitting up thing. Go figure!

Anyhow! Good luck with the catching up! Can't wait to see your arts!

    • Link

lol aww thank you!!! I have to gush, I LOVE YOUR WATERCOLOURS! :D
Can't tell you how happy I am you have an account here.

Okay done with the gushing, yah I probably shouldn't lean into tables when I'm drawing. When I get into the drawing zone I forget time, space, reality around me and not even realize what I'm doing. The drawing zone, very similar to the twilight zone for me.
I should be posting a ton more humans soon, I have a human comic in works and would love feedback on designs.

      • Link

Right back at you, mate! (if you ever in million years wanna do a trade, just hit me)

Huzzah for human comic! I am waiting for those ones! Heck waiting for any art from you! It's expressive and original!

And what i forgot to mention: I had no idea you used to be an FA admin. SO there was intelligent life once there too! Who would have guessed.

        • Link

OMG I'd love to trade with you!!! :)
Though I warn you it can take me a bit to get to trades because I juggle work from multiple sources anything deadline gets priority in my world.

Yaaah dark times, dark times as an admin... It had hope but it just screwed itself over and I wasn't shocked how it all panned out when FA and Furocity merged and then the plans fell the fuck apart.

          • Link

(don't be weird about this, Grinn) OMG! Yes! Thank you! Whee!
            (well that was smooth)
But no worries: real life shenanigans always come first. ^^

See, I never got in those things. I was happily in my little bubble of simple ignorance. "What shitstorm? It's nice and sunny here!"
