Meet Tanuki by QTMelon

Thank you everyone who voiced your concerns and condolences regarding Moosh. I wasn't going to go into work yesterday since I was still stick and a bit depressed over his loss.

Near the end of the day my co workers surprise me with http://qtmelon.tumblr.com/post/72030728508/apparently-my-co-workers-pitched-in-and-got-me

I have named him Tanuki and if you look up a "Tanuki statue" and know that male hamsters are rather...well endowed it fits.

He is still a bit scared since everything is new, but he's a lot less timid than Moosh was. Currently Taniki is still hard at the wheel where he's been running on it all last night and still going strong this morning.

Awh, so cute! I'm glad you like him and that the little guy is adjusting well. I'm also glad that you're feeling a little better with a new hammie to love. :3

Thank you, I'm still sick but no one is around to help cover my desk.

Welcome Tanuki, you're in the butter zone now!

go little guy go! :D that was really sweet of your co-workers

Yes it was. This is the first time I've owned a shorthair male so it's funnier to see how well endowed they are. I think Tanuki is a very appropriate name in this case.

        I had a black bear boy, the only boy I had... yeah he was very well endowed haha. He was such a big sweetheart though ;v;

Males tend to be more sweet than the females. I think the females have the additional stress of going into heat and having to make sure they have a nest that protects potential babies they may have.

yeah, the girls I had before were definitely a little more jumpy in their own way. But I handled them so much they never bit me; actually one of them would fall asleep in the crook of my arm while I did homework lol

Viktor (my black bear boy) was the last hamster I had and the first boy I had so he was very special to me haha

Awww, he is adorable, and that is a lovely gesture on their part. :3

Yes, I appreciate what they did for me, I'm still trying to make sure he doesn't get frightened when I come into the room since he is getting acclimated to all the noises here.

Aww. :3 He'll get used to it, I'm sure. You bring food and soft touches!

Probably a tangent: my dog was a stray that animal control found hiding under a car, I've no idea of his background. When I first got him, he was so afraid of everything and of me that I caught him peeing on my backpack, corrected him (literally just saying "Hey!"), and he got so scared he ran into the kitchen and threw up. Now he'll fall asleep on my chest. Such is the power of food and patience! (And domestication, I guess; that helps.)

Yes, it's so sad when animals have such a bad past like that. When you show them real love they slowly learn to get over it and become a friend for life.

Hah, I must say, after seeing all your hamster posts on the forums and here, I'm very inclined to pick up a hamster myself. I'm happy to see that he's fitting right in to your family. =)

I wish they didn't have short lifespans, but they ended up being the perfect pet since I am on my own and work till the evening. Being nocturnal they're up and about when I get home, since they sleep during the day.

Tanuki is still a bit jumpy because he's trying to get used to the environment. He doesn't seem to fidget much when I do get a hold of him so he's starting to learn to be a bit more calm.
