Is It Just Me Or... by Crocdragon
Does Weasyl seems kind of deadish? I mean, I get some favorites, but barely any comments. It seems to look that way for other people, too.
Sort of makes me feel like posting here is kind of pointless, especially if there is no feedback or anything. However, I'm stubborn, and do really like the site's layout and folders, something Fa probably won't ever have.
But yeah, just figured I'd say something while it was on my mind.

Indeed. And I can understand. I do something similar when it comes to commenting. But as I said down below, I think I just need to start commenting around more, interacting with other users, since I already post often enough.

My partner and I have both noticed the same issue here, really. Seems like people view, but don't interact here the way they do on FA.

Pretty much. And I can understand why, FA's been around longer, it's the biggest Furry site on the net and probably period. And while Weasyl isn't 100% a furry site, it has so much more potential than FA., and actually gets things done to make the site better for its users. That's my major problem with FA. They're all bark but no bite. They make constant promises and what's-to-comes, but almost never follow through. Part of me is thinking FA will never get updated and continue to make little to almost pointless updates. And it seems they can never make up their mind with their AUP either.

I feel that most just want attention, but don't want to give any back. including those who don't post anything at all. Then again, I feel that most people tend to forget this site exists...
though I try to comment on just about everything. i want this site to win over FA.-
After being told FA probably won't ever have Folders, personally by Dragoneer "not to hold my breath", I do really want this site to succeed. I mean, I like FA, but so many people have said it's outdated, it's way too buggy for it's own good, and I can see that. The new things that get added are usually insignificant and probably unnecessary, not to mention a new UI was mentioned to us and even promised in the summer years ago, and nothing has been done yet. I can understand things taking time, I'm a patient guy, but why bother giving something a deadline if you never follow through? FA seems to do that. A lot. :/

I believe that FA became terrible the moment Dragoneer got his claws on it (not trying to be cute with that). The site was never the same and slowly things became more elitist, or rather, personal to the admins and moderators. I hate what FA has become. lies, underhanded deals, banning's just because or because someone happen to hurt an admins feelings (I've heard so many stories along this line it's ridiculous... ). they are not treating the site professionally, and lack what other, better, sites have.
Weasyl is still beta and is showing way more potential than FA, it just needs the followers, the artists, the writers, the favers, and mods to be more... well active. we all need to show each support and comment more, even if it's something you're not totally into (I dislike vore, but I comment to people on what they did well and worked hard on). we just need to support each other as a community on weasyl. I've seen so many journals of people leaving after saying "this site is dead, no one is ever commenting on my stuff so I'm staying on FA" and I look through their profiles and i see that they are following about 2 people, or faved only 2 pics but get a tong of page views. I look through so many pics and I don't see a single comment from them... so how do they expect to get any views? by doing the exact thing they're complaining about? that's ridiculous.
All in all, I comment on just about everything i fave, and I've faved nearly 12k pics so far. that's around 10k comments and that's not including journals. I'm actually putting effort into this. i don't expect others to do the same, but at least 10 comments... 10 comments a week! but no one wants to support anyone else, everyone tends to only think of themselves.

I wonder why people don't stand up to Dragoneer, Band together and then tell him with unanimous voice to get out. A majority's voice can be dangerous when charged with wrath--and he wouldn't dare ban everyone.
It would be like the lowly people of France rising up against the royals.-
I considered that, but it's actually very alarming at how many people will bend over backwards to get on the good side of someone they "dislike" or just want attention from. I mean, look at Jay Naylor's fan following.... he's a good artist.. but seriously demented and a total prick, yet everyone hangs off everything he says and will go to great lengths to attack someone he dislikes.
I got a feeling that dragoneer has the same. It wouldn't be surprising. Though it would be fun to watch him fall.

People really need to see the people for who they are x_xI mean I had a giant idiot who has tonnes of watchers but is a huge drama hoarder.....we need to fight against people like this. If not, then nothing will get better.

it's not pretentious, more like rebellious. lol
we do need this. people like Dragoneer (and his annoying girl, if they're still together at this point), Jay Naylor, WolfBlade (I have my personal problems with him -_- ) and all those other jerks who over use their fan following, their "power" to their advantage, because those "flies" that hang off their every word and picture need a kick in the arse to think for themselves and realize these are people, not furry gods.-

Though this has got me thinking of a new story to write :)
Something along the lines of King Lear and Ran. A sort of subtle hint about how FA can fall rapidly.-

well for some reason I'm having issues with uploading stuff onto Weasyl, but I've contacted the admins about it and they're trying to fix around it :)
Plus it'll be on my FA too (of the same name)Its also partially a tragedy. Its set in a fictional land and with no direct physical similarities to the admins of course, with a warlord wolf (representing someone we know of) who basically is regarded as a great person in his royal court, but we see the realities of his actions through ruins and other massacres.

Weasyl has a cool folder system---which would be great to sort out my writing projects, because I have multiple ones, including a massive storyline divided into chapters, intended for all ages.

It feels that way for me too but I refuse to give up on this site because I really like it. I don't post everything on FA and often get comment overwhelmed on FA though Weasyl could use a little more activity.

I agree. I myself am going to try and be a little more active comment wise. I mean, I post every other day so I suppose that would be the next step for me. But yeah, I do want this site to get bigger and better, and at the rate its going, it's certainly going to get better, as Weasyl is actually working to make updates, and actually implementing them instead of just talking about it.

Trust me as someone that use to be an admin on FA it will NEVER improve over there and simply CAN'T improve.

The population's definitely lower. Those who are here are generally active though. It'll probably take a while for it to pick up, but it definitely will if they come through on even half of the ideas and promises floating around.

Oh, I believe that completely, yes. As I said above, FA makes a lot of promises and practically teases us with what could be the next thing for FA, buuuut they never follow through with it.

I think the issue is that (almost) everyone's on FA already, and when people see stuff here, they're probably already seen it on FA. :\

I can understand that, yeah. A lot of the artists I rewatched on here post what I've already seen on FA. Part of me is thinking to make site exclusives, but I don't think I'd want to do that to my watchers over on FA, but at the same time, that might be what could get more people here.

I like this site way more than FA. It has better layout, more features, it's stable and they actually make updates unlike FA. I remember how they promised a new layout for the site, I even saw a picture of it and that was almost two years ago. But still, most people prefer FA because of how big the community there is. On Weasyl you barely get any feedback if at all. I still hope that Weasyl will become more popular because it is a very good site.

it's simple how many people do you hear say "I hate fa this place is better" yet none take 5 minutes to post here, I have popular buddies who say how awful FA is and how great here is but it never goes beyond that because FA is more active.
When I posted on FA you'd get faves and comments from at least 5 people minimum, here you're lucky if your picture has moved off the front page after a day and a half.
I see people active here but they just dump a pic then leave, no communication or they just up and leave.

Yeah, I see that as well. It's unfortunate. I'll also admit that I'm doing the same thing, however I'm going to change that. I want to be more active on here. It's just sort of hard when everyone else around you is just as inactive as you are, if not more.

Yet the active people aren't getting the attention its more so "hi im popufur #33434 imma make a journal saying how I made a weasyl go and watch me" but never post.

I've noticed the dead zone as well and it's true you don't see many people comment. However this place has such potential not only in style but in members, almost 3/4's of the artists i currently commission from i met on this site. It's amazing how many great artist's i've found because of how "slow" the site is, the tag blocking system is also pretty great with letting me avoid seeing things i don't particularly find appealing such as the over-abundant use of hermaphrodites or various stages of vore/gore.

Yeah. I noticed it's pretty dead here. Then again I don't post too much here too often, only my mostly finished pieces. I don't know, there is art coming in from what I can see, just not much in the way of socializing. XD

To be honest i should be giving out some comments too (and post the barely 1-2 things i ever drew lol..) , besides this might be a bit dead-ish, but i think itll be a matter of time til people start getting motivated to move from FA to here (furthermore with all the shit thats been going around ¡¡>-> ive been there already for 3-4 years and now i see how things changed... -w-¡) But yeah, it might be just a matter of time :3

It is pretty dead here. I'd move my gallery onto here and other sites but I'd have to get at least 100 different artist's approval to post else where since some I do commission have a ToS clause, to not post off site FA.

I admit I don't post here enough, but I barely post on FA and I rarely post on DA too. I even ignore my Tumblr sometimes. I'm really busy though. I feel bad about it,, but I don't know what to do. I really want this place to succeed. It feels more like "home" than FA and the website works better, but I need a lot of free time to import my gallery. Unless I'm stupid and there's some easy import tool like Artician has.

I much prefer Weasyl to FA, but two problems, I rarely comment unless I'm REALLY affected by a piece, and you are right, submissions and even journals are so rare here it makes it feel dead.
