PostyBirb is a good tool for making crossposting easy if you haven't tried it yet.

Pretty darn good idea, I think. If nothing else, FA seems to explode with site failures all the time anyway.

Keeping more than one site up to date is advisable. It's good for archival and some peoole don't very much enjoy other sites, if you can imagine it. ;)
