Big Announcement! Comics by Malachyte

The time is here. I've teased this info during streams, and mentioned it on my weekly schedule, and now for the big reveal--

I'm making a comic! And I'm launching my first ever SubscribeStar account to help bring it to life. I've been putting bits of my scant free time towards getting this off the ground for the past couple of months, and I'm so excited to share this with all of you at last. I'll try to address some of the questions people may have down below!

What's the comic? Gimme the details!

The comic is planned to be between 20 and 30 pages, and is an adult themed fan comic featuring characters from the 1999 Playstation 1 game rhythm game, Um Jammer Lammy. You may have seen art of Lammy around my galleries over the years, but I'm sure many are unfamiliar with her overall. Her game is actually a spin-off of the more popular PaRappa the Rapper series. The game features a 2D paper style, much like Paper Mario. The story is incredibly weird. Check out the opening cutscene to get a slice of it yourself!

Specifically, I really like the main character, Lammy. She's sheepish (get it?) and lacks faith in her abilities, though she always tries her best. But when her guitar is in her hands, she transforms into a super confident guitar shredding fiend! It's true that it's not a particularly unique premise, but to teenage me, who was also becoming a very nervous person who just wanted to do their best, I couldn't help but get swept up in caring about her.

The premise is simple; The three band members are writing their newest song, but it's mid-summer in the sweltering heat, and everybody is feeling pretty sweaty and bushed. Ma-san heads out, leaving Katy and Lammy alone. Katy likes to give Lammy compliments to boost her low self-esteem, but little does she realize just how much Lammy enjoys those sweet words of praise coming from her friend (praise kink, anyone?). When Katy leaves for the night, Lammy has a lot on her mind, and she just can't help but do a little something about it.

Didn't you make a comic once before?

Sort of! You may see me refer to this as my first fully-independently-made comic, despite making a comic called Twincest: Beginnings Revisited many years ago. I think many are unaware that I did not write that comic, that was the work of Nikora Angeli. She stopped work on the comic for a variety of personal reasons, and offered it up to any artist that felt motivated to finish it. I loved the original Twincest comic, and decided to give it my own coat of paint, as well as some fresh pages. So while I did make that comic, I didn't have to go through the process of scripting or thumbnailing pages, which is a huge amount of work.

What about commissions? And why are the reward tiers so light?

As of right now, commission work is my priority. Over time this will change, and I'll devote more work hours towards comics and other projects, but that is a ways in the future. You'll see on my SubscribeStar that the reward tiers are quite light; this is partly because the comic is in the beginning phases, so there isn't much content to share yet, and partly to keep myself from overloading my schedule. If I find that this platform is taking away focus from commissions, I will adjust things ASAP.

Once I have 5 pages of this comic totally completed, the reward tiers will change to reflect more goodies; all the things like early access to pages, getting to see the thumbnail sketches and pencils, etc. If you'd like to wait to subscribe until there is more content, I will be making a post on all my sites when this change occurs, so keep an eye out! For this purpose, I've made a free Follower Tier, which acts as a way to receive email updates about my SubscribeStar without the need to pledge money.

Why SubscribeStar? Why not Patreon?

I spent quite some time weighing the pros and cons of these two platforms. It was not an easy decision, and I hope you'll trust me when I say I picked SubscribeStar for good reasons. Over the years I've been dormant from my old Patreon, I've still kept myself informed about their changes and decisions, and even took part in their online meetings about policies. There are a number of reasons I feel more welcome on SubscribeStar, but the biggest reason I chose it is; Patreon reserves the right to ban an artist if the artist, on a different website, posts risque content that would not be accepted on Patreon. I have confirmed this with the Patreon team; they feel that any content an artist makes, regardless of where it's posted, is technically funded by their platform if the artist has an open Patreon account where they are receiving money. All my posts on Patreon itself could be perfectly within their ever-changing Acceptable Content Policy, but if for some reason they decide to check out my account on FurAffinity, Inkbunny, Twitter, wherever, and see something that they don't like, my page will be shut down. I simply cannot in good faith put my livelihood into circumstances like that.

I'm sure some of you may be frustrated that I'm not using the more common platform, or that SubscribeStar does not accept Paypal. I very much wish Paypal would allow the sale of adult material, but the reality is that they don't. They want no association with 18+ content, and that's a bummer. Maybe if we all make it known to Paypal that this is a huge thing we'd love them to do, it will change one day. I wish I had the power to change their minds all on my own, but I, like you, am subject to their whims.

Please Spare Me

A quick plea for your mercy; this is my first time using this platform, and there are going to be changes along the way, bumps in the road, and oopsies. I pride myself on doing my research before I start anything, but I am not perfect, and stuff will come up. If you see something that looks amiss, could be improved, or there's some funny business with money and how it's charged, please reach out to me! You can message me here, or shoot me an email via my website.

Thank you so much for reading, and for supporting me already in so many ways. I've been wanting to write this comic for almost a decade, but was never able to get it going. I truly love these characters, and I just want to share art I'm genuinely excited to make. Thank you!
