▲🌱Uh... My Species - not Pokemon by Uluri

So uh, the Conversation is just about OCs always being called pokemon even if they don't look like pokemon.

If you want to know what Species my Characters are, Its on their Ref and I ALWAYS tag the species. (same goes for anything I draw)
My OCS: https://ulurifox.wixsite.com/uluri/characters

Anyways, just wanted it brought up as a topic because of the odd amounts of this happening at the moment. It just strikes me odd when say... my uh... human form for Uluri gets plopped into a Pokemon favorites folder (or being called one). For one, Its like people can't comprehend that Magical Animal Monsters aren't all pokemon. And uh two... Uluri's human form is at best a regular Sparkledog Kemonomimi. I can understand the Animal forms a little, but not human.

Remember folks, sparkledogs, regular animals, folk lore creatures, and magic animal creatures can be more than just pokemon. XD

Maybe they're overlapping it, since you draw a lot of Eevee, too. I guess I could see that. The fluffy Eevee and your previous version-to-the-dragon Uluri had the fluffy, too--I guess if they saw a lot of your Eevee and then Uluri, maybe they just made an irrational leap of thought? hmmm

I personally like your fluffy characters, the more fluffy, the better. :)

This is just how the art community is. There's not a single character that I've drawn that hasn't been called a pokemon at one point (minus the clearly human ones). Honestly the Eevee Pokemon community is awful because any canine that is fluffy gets called an Eevee. Uluri's fluff even went down the arms and to belly like a jacket, but a friend of mine literally had their legit regular fox arts get called Eevee the other day. Normal foxes. This time around, my Human Uluri was put into a Fennekin Folder? The human one. But the pokemon community is really really bad in general with all types of animals and creatures. Lots of artists I am friends with have the same issue or have at least been told 'That look like [Pokemon]' at least once.

It’s so crazy. I guess it shows my sheltered-ness.......at least Wabi has never been called a Pokémon. (It’d be very wrong if Keira-Jo was, clearly being a Sega-style Echidna! XD)

I suppose too many people just live in a Pokémon World and don’t understand the furry community is separate and has nothing to do with it. :/

How can one mistake an ordinary red fox (red as in the species) an Eevee? I thought Eevees were Fennec foxes?
Okay, the art community just got way more confusing to me. 😣

The eevee/lutions are varying degrees of Fox, Rabbit, and Cats. (and then there's that weirdo vaproeon XD) But if you have a fox character, chances are that someone's shoved it into an eevee folder or called it an eevee/pokemon. But yeah, we've been sitting around baffled all day, too.

I don't think Vaporeon is a weirdo, really. It looks like an aquatic version of a carbunkle to me. I never saw any cat or rabbit though. The anatomy looks too canine to me.
            Well, except for this... https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/File:197Umbreon.png
            Leg issue?

            • Link

Umbreon has very Rabbit-like features being related to the Moon. Eevee's ears and face can be seen as both rabbit and fennec-like. Artists who've drawn eevee as a rabbit features look as similar to when they draw it like fennecs but with a rounder face. Espeon is Very Cat-like being a nekomata (and carbuncle at same time). Sylveon is some weird Rabbit Dog, probably also because fairy moves have a moon focus. Flareon and Glaceon are very fox-like while Jolteon and Leafeon are very dog-like.

Vaporeon is really different than the others, though, because you can pick out animals for the rest real easy. Some Water Dog creature for Vaporeon. It has fins and four legs. It's not really a specific animal. (A figurative mud puppy XD )

I always saw Vaporeon as a seal-like canid to be honest. The tail fin just reminds me of seals or whales. I just noticed Umbreon's back leg looked a bit off in the official artwork. I think they could make a new one to fix it. But maybe I'm just being too observant? 🤔

I always thought they were a sparklefox though, just out of curiosity? Normally the term sparkledog implies the domestic dog species. I don't know, maybe I don't understand the terminology well enough.
I've actually had one of my OCs favoritesd in folders that made no sense. If it wasn't a "bad art" folder, then it's a folder for certain species of rock-type Pokemon. I mean, you've got to be pretty daft to think that a quadrupedal animal with LIGHTNING powers is comparable to a small rock monster that doesn't even have legs, let alone a lower body. I did make a pokésona of my wolf OC, but the rock-type Pokémon I chose was Lycanroc, not the species they used to mock her with. I even designed her with chargestone cave rocks in her name and Hidden Power as a learned move. Though I bet they were probably angry when they found out I used a Pokémon species that actually made sense and not the one they used to make fun of me because it probably ruins it for them. But I just don't know what I find more insulting. Being added to a folder for the wrong species, or a "bad art" folder. Most of my friends who got featured in bad art folders even considered quitting because they were being made fun of. I remember there being a video about that, but it's gone.

*Mane, not "name". (Please, edit comments?)

Sparkledog refers to Any Animal Character with bright/nonrealistic colors. It is a term applied to any species queued as an overall term for a theme od unrealisticly colorful, and not just meaning domestic canine. Uluri is a Shape shifting slime with forms Human, cape fox, bat-eared fox, Two monsters, and now a dragon, but the colors alone would be Under the Sparkledog genre because of the Neon green eye killing brightness. Trace as well: https://ulurifox.wixsite.com/uluri/trace being a neon rabbit (as well as that pink one in the gallery there).

On the Folders: You can Report people who use folders like that. it is a form of harassment and trolling that DA looks into. DA doesn't like their features being used in that sort of manner, and tend to take it more seriously than regular harassment.
