Fraud Attempt by Taesolieroy

I'm really not pleased about this..

I was working on some owed projects when I got a call from my bank today.

A couple days ago someone in Massachusetts tried to use my card info to make a $150 purchase at a Target. My guess was for either furniture, or electronics for a bill like that.

Because my range is within 15 miles of my house, and 30 miles of my home in Maine, the attempted fraud was thankfully declined, because I still have rent that I need to pay and I'm $40 short for it thanks to needing to fill my car earlier last month last second.

So now I have to go in and get a temporary card because the replacement card will take 5-6 days and I may have need of a necessary trip to the grocery store until my next check.

It's just.. Really people? Why the insane need to steal money from people through their cards? Or other means?

.. Little Beardie says hi as she scrabbles all over the keyboard...

That's happened to me a couple times, actually. The most recent one was a person who had made a fake card with my info and spent every penny in my account on cigarettes and diapers at a CVS in New York City. Thankfully it was such a bizarre purchase that the cashier remembered what time it was, so they were able to snag him on a security camera.

I'm really glad that most banks so readily refund fraudulent purchases. It must cost them a lot of money to maintain that. :\

Euch... why cigarettes and diapers? That's truly bizarre... But at least they were able to catch the idiot - were you able to be refunded at least?

I was glad that my movement range is so small that it raised a red flag and the bank declined the purchase before anything was taken out of it XP But hey.. if it keeps your clients with you, why not take that extra expense?

Eh, who knows why cigarettes and diapers. I think they're taxed high in some states and are often sold on eBay and such for the discount (I know cigarettes have INSANE taxes where I live, which is one of the reasons I'm glad I quit smoking five years ago, yeesh). And yeah, I have a really REALLY good bank, so they refunded me quickly and helped me file a police report. :)

Haha, with my asthma, I refuse smoking outright, which is a pain when my coworkers come in from smoking because I can literally smell the smoke on them as if they were smoking next to me from six feet away XP At least they were able to refund you the money though! I've heard of cases where banks will drag their feet about that.

I love the fact that credit cards require pin codes here before you can use them, so just stealing someone's card, or knowing their card # doesn't enable one to commit fraud. And to log into your online bank, you have to use a separate dongle that has a random pin code generated each time you use it, and you can't log in without it.

Well.. my check card required a pin as well, so it may have been a combination of wrong pin number and the fact it was so far out of physical spending range that I have as well..
