The avenues the story and storytelling methods take aren't dumbed down and plain, then to flip the script the game doesn't blow your ego when you end up as a prominent figure, which keeps it open-ended, which upsets people who want peasants bowing to them whenever they become Winterhold College's archmage, the following argument being that it's immersion-breaking to become prominent among the Companions afterwards. Wow, it's like you're not playing a video game! /s

A game that was aesthetically realistic came out, was praised to no end, received insane tribute value, and it upset some anime fans, staunch Nintendo fans, and people who either wanted to fund their YouTube over hating on it or just never know what they want in a game that isn't Fallout New Vegas, lol.

Memes spread from people who were never really interested in the game in the first place, or, from people who played for 300 to 600+ hours before saying they hated it, making their claims hilarious both ways (since memes can be inherently garbage).

It's still talked about, it's still praised, its still modded, it's still made to be the magnum opus of some folks, it's still the subject of Let's Plays, it's still getting artwork made around it, it's still a clandestine wonder for people who add or use added bannable content for it, it's still the subject of porn, it's still a subject of roleplays. It's still relevant. And people can't handle it.

Skyrim lives on, trampling all over the hatred it receives on a regular basis through the even greater support from many loyal fans.
