Getting older, Halloween, and other updates by Marwan

So yeah, I'm officially 33 now. ^_^;; Getting older every year... @_@

Well, last Monday, I finally did it: with the help of my parents and those who have given me the Ko-fi donations, I've bought and installed a new graphics card into my computer. You could say that it's my early birthday present. XD It's a GeForce GTX 1050 Ti -- To be fair, it's technically a slightly older model; it's not quite 4k-compliant and is not VR-ready either, but it's enough to run many of the most recent games at 1080p at constant 60fps with all graphic settings set to Ultra. And it's cheap enough that my parents didn't object me into buying it. I don't fancy the more ludicrously expensive latest models... I pick and choose a card based on how it suits my requirements.

Actually, originally, the main reason why we went to that computer shop wasn't to upgrade my computer, but instead to have my 1920x1080 monitor fixed. Which is a big deal because I've only bought this monitor for like 3 months, and now it's broken. x_o It may have been a lemon or something, but back then, the monitor seemed to work fine. Now, it displayed nothing but white screen. At present, I'm forced to use this older 1280x1024 monitor for the time being. In order to test my games at 1920x1080, I had to hook my computer to my HDTV. I've tested both Warframe and DiRT Rally with it, and both games ran at a constant 1080p 60fps with no noticeable framerate drops, even with all quality options set to ultra. Now I wish I can play this with my newer monitor that's currently broken. =_= It's uncomfortable enough trying to play Warframe on my HDTV, due to its location near the side of my bed, which means that I literally had to lie on my belly to play it, bringing my keyboard and mouse on my bed. x_x

Currently, I'm still waiting for the dudes at the computer shop to tell us whether or not my monitor has been fixed. At the time of writing this journal entry, they haven't sent an e-mail to my father yet, whether or not it's fixed and we can pick it up soon. Gaming at 1280x1024 feels awkward especially when you're already so used to 16:9 monitor aspect ratio.

Regarding Halloween, this year, I'm not sure what ghoulish costumes I want my characters to dress with. I'm sure I can figure it out soon. ^_^;;

I also plan to do a new animated vlog video, this time regarding this recent insidious practice of microtransactions in a single player game, and loot boxes adding an extra layer of gambling to games that you wouldn't think would have it. It'll probably be ready by this November...-ish. However, I hit a roadblock: ever since all these latest Windows 10 updates, I found that Adobe Flash Professional CS5 no longer works as normal as before. That program became incredibly slow to run, and playback speed is choppy. @_@ So I'm thinking of switching to some other alternative animation programs I can use. I could use Toon Boom, but the price tag to legally obtain the license to use it drew me off. x_x But then, I heard of other free and open source alternatives like OpenToonz and Synfig Studio -- not sure which are the right ones for me.

P.S. As a thank you to my Ko-fi supporters, I plan to draw something special for y'all. =3
