So A Life Update & Some Thoughts by Cyph3r

I'm... Super depressed/tired right now, although it's 3pm, however, I'm gonna do a Life Update journal ( again taking a page from Keirajo's book, might as well just say thanks for the idea at this point. And also go check them out, they have some great art. ) And am also gonna have a few thoughts to go along with it.

So, my birthday is on Thursday ( This Thursday the 6th ) and I'm wondering if I should try doing anything special for it this year... Three days until my birthday... Man, I feel old and I'm only gonna be turning 23... ;3;
I've already received a gift that makes my birthday pretty good~ Not gonna go into specific details, but I'm happy because I have some new time occupiers. Looking forward to see what else I might receive on my birthday.

In other news, I've changed my stuff around a bit here on Weasyl. Requests are now just straight up open. HOWEVER, I would still love some commissions. Requests might take more than a week to finish because my wrist has random decisions on when to be super painful, hindering me doing art. I've also decided... To possibly do some art trades or some Collabs. Might be interesting to see what people can come up with to offer. Commissions are also still open but I have it set to "sometimes" because it's so rare that I get a commission that I'd rather not bother too badly with it, as they'll come when they come. I've also some artworks I need to upload, and will probably do a triple upload after I finish this journal. Of course, I upload first on My Deviantart, and then upload here to Weasyl, and then I need to upload, and get up-to-date, on My Furaffinity account. I ALSO realize I need to update my Weasyl page banner and avatar; then again, I need to update all my actual avatars to be more... Uniform? Yeah, that's the word.

Think that'll do for the moment on splurging text onto a journal. It's a decent life update, though.

OH CRAP, ONE LAST THING! IF PEOPLE -WANT- TO MAKE/GIVE ME SOME BIRTHDAY STUFF, THEY'RE WELCOME TO! However, it's totally not necessary at all, but if anyone does want to, go for it, just make sure to send me an inbox message on my birthday with the link/whatever so I don't miss it. If I get any arts or any cool things, I'll make a journal with pictures/links. But again, totally unnecessary to give me anything, my rule of thumb is "If people give me stuff, awesome, if not, oh well, nobody has to be obliged to do anything for me."

    D'awwwww. I'm glad I could help. Even if it's just to make journals. :)

    I like to talk to people, so that's why I do them. Share things I know that others may want to know (like Pokemon news), talk about nerdy things I like. And let people know I'm an active person.......in life and here on this site. And make my incredibly boring life sound far more interesting than it really is! XD

    I do have a small drawing for you, but I need to scan it still. I haven't scanned anything in a couple weeks....... :)

      I just hate going long periods without activity or saying something, so this gives me an excuse to talk, even if it's just me nerding out and talking about stuff that only involves me. ><;;

      And yeah, I remember you saying you were gonna try to do something. Definitely looking forward to it. Though, don't feel the need to rush it if it's not done in time. Stressing oneself out over a specific artpiece isn't good for creativity.

        I did something on Copic card paper, it's about 4"x6" in size...I just need to color it. Inking goes easy and fast for me..............coloring usually takes me longer. XD (I can't carry hundreds of markers everywhere.............a case of drawing pens, yes, I can take those everywhere!)

        I went to a panel thing at FurCon years ago. It was more or less geared towards people who do commission work or want to do commission work. The thing that they stated as the most important thing was...prove you exist. They said that simply uploading 100 pieces every couple weeks and vanishing again makes people think that you don't exist and they may not think to commission you if you're not "generally active" on a site. They suggested that even if you feel too busy to reply to comments, try to post a "life update" journal--so that potential commissioners know what you're doing. And also...upload something a couple times a week. Even if you hold back art to do so................don't so that 100-piece spam, try to upload at least 1-3 pieces every few days. This lets your followers know you exist and are active...and they will be more likely to come to you when you open commissions. :)

        I never intended on doing commission work, but it was an art panel and I was curious enough to go to it. But I think a lot of what they say is really good. Look at people who complain about not getting commission work...how active are they on any site they're on? Many of this type............are the ones who I notice are spammers and generally take little notice of their followers. They'll say "well, this site [meaning Fur Affinity] has more activity" and focus on FA--but they should remember that they were probably unknown once over on FA and had to build up their following and fan-base. I think anyone can be popular wherever they are, as long as they show interest in where they're at and the people that follow/watch them. Journals, stories, music, drawing........just showing you're alive and interested on a website is much better than being someone who shows up when they're bored or need money. :)

        As funny as it is to say...I was popular on FA, but NOT because of my art--I was popular because I was a nice person. Who said kind words and was supportive to many people. My art is actually far more popular here on Weasyl than it ever was on FA. XD

          That's what I started working on recently. Doing art, but holding onto it in favor of having a backlog of pictures I can upload a couple of every few days. I generally upload to Deviantart, but my Weasyl here is a catch all, and I actually like Weasyl's system more than Deviantart. Another reason I went with making Weasyl my primary is it's site is generally smaller, so I didn't feel like I was competing with so many people and being biased against by the site's submission system. When someone goes to Deviantart's home page they see the "What's Hot" portion first, the "current most popular" tab if you will. And that frustrated me because that means new stuff that gets uploaded doesn't get near as much attention as it should. Weasyl's front page is "this is all the new stuff that's been just uploaded" and that feels nicer, in my opinion, because it means I, and other small artists, have SOME CHANCE of actually getting their art seen.

            I remember hating that at Fur Affinity, because like with YCHs (even after they changed the rules, people STILL GOT AWAY WITH IT) artists would literally upload their ad every minute or so, whatever the flood protection was. The top page would become nothing but one artist's YCH ad. :<

            That's another good thing about Weasyl...their flood protection is--only the most current three uploads will show on the top page. So that person who spams 100 pieces? Yeah, only their last three will be on the top page. I think that helps more artists get seen over any website! And journals are also visible...as well as other categories--it's not a mash of everything on the top page, it's very organized! :D
