Skype! by Nommz

Skype! Most of us are familiar with it!

I hate using it. My skype name isn’t TOO hard to guess, but I honestly find myself wanting to start it up less and less as time goes on. Lag makes it beyond usable; it takes several minutes to load a conversation! That’s ridiculous! I’m not talking starting up the program or anything ACTUALLY complex, I mean literally just clicking on a different contact and loading up the messages. That shouldn’t take that long at /all/. I don’t even make an attempt at using the shoddy mobile app. The lagginess, plus the fact that it continually tries to download viruses through the ads, is more or less /the/ reason I don’t bother with it anymore. Sometimes I use it for voice chatting, but even then there’s other options folks are starting to point me towards.

That said, I know there’s some of you still clinging to it, and only it. I’m sorry that I’m not around to chat on there! It’s not that I don’t want to chat with you, by any means. I just cannot stand the horrendous mess that is Skype. Or viruses. I am VERY ACTIVE on both Telegram and Twitter, though! Like, available practically all the time that I’m not asleep. I think Discord is another thing I poked about on once and I might get into that more if folks are using it. Definitely suggest hopping on at least one of those if you still wanna chat with me and such. Its just getting harder and harder to justify the shitshow that is Skype when there’s just a small bunch exclusively there. My twitter is @DragoNommz if you wanna follow me there!     I'm fed up with Skype myself. Honestly, the only two reasons I use it are for voice-chatting and friends who have nothing else.

    I'm hoping that once Discord implements more of their roadmap, people will start moving to that. They plan on adding everything people say they like about Skype, but without the phone number requirement that some people hate about Telegram. The challenge, as with so many things, is convincing people to switch to yet another service.

    I personally only have Skype on my distro of Linux since for some strange reason, Telegram refuses to run on it at this time.

    But this... this whole thing... is why I'd rather have many accounts on many service and just sort of randomly rotate through them all, because some people still have not left AIM or ICQ for another service.

    What displeases me about the messaging systems the most (with the exception for XMPP) is that each one uses its own proprietary system, back end, and user base control. In essence, to have friends on any messenger, they must be on that same exact service. (Another reason why I tend to rotate messenger clients is because of this and the fact so many have caught on early in the game and found one they refuse to leave now.)

    The only exception to all this that I have seen so far is XMPP (also known as Jabber and sometimes Google Talk) - however, these services do not have near the user base as a major system like Telegram or Skype.
