~Biography~

Originally born in the chilly northern tip of the continent of Avignion in the region called the Umalt Nation, she was one of the few in her parent's rather modestly-sized pack to be chosen as a potential Skyguard. Still only a wyrmling, she was taken to the southeast into the more temperate, swampy region of Inpreza to luckily find and choose a partner/rider that would work with her for the rest of each others' long tenure.

The neonate did get that chance, this chance coming in the form of a smarmy, crafty dwarf named Gart Droghaur who had recently been selected to find a partner. The exact mechanism and origin of the selection process for future Skyguards is still unclear other than it's partly practical and partly mystical, but either party must choose each other otherwise no bond can be forged. All she knew was that he was the only sentient that she'd allow on her back after he not only withstood a solid headbutt from her, but returned the gesture with a slug to the side of her face.

After the initiation rites and rituals were completed came the rigorous and grueling 4-year training regimen so they could learn to work, fight and live together. The friendship between a Skyguard pair tends to run deeper than ordinary camaraderie, and even though it took the two stubborn and proud individuals a long time, eventually they found that even though they did not like the company of other creatures, they at least liked each others. They were eventually transferred out of the loft in Inpreza, instead volunteering to take the hazardous and remote post in the arctic wasteland of Queth Dir, all the way on the other side of Alteir. They left just in time too, since soon afterward the political strife in Inpreza that was brewing for several years finally came to a head and chaos, civil unrest and scandal swept across the nation not even a year later.

Now, after almost four decades stationed in Queth Dir a day's flight from the port town Lucent, they work, scout and hunt together like a well-oiled machine. They currently live in a large, haphazard tiered hideaway that allows Gart to collect his junk and cast off contraptions and an expansive area for her to nest in. There's always the cold, but between him being tough as stale jerky and her adaptations as a fire dragon, they get by very well, even though they can't help but snipe and tease each other mercilessly.

~Dracobiology~

~Skjell's species is considered of the "5th generation" of dragons, a designation coined by mortal dracomorphologists to denote how far removed a given draconic species is from the original progenitor dragons, the Primordials. The Umaltean people collectively call them Sunset Screamers not only due to the male's bright, fiery frills and wings but also how noisy they can be as a pack during the evening hours in summer.
~Skjell is even more interesting in that she exhibits a rare sex-linked mutation in that she expresses physical as a male Cometwing. Females typically still have crests (but no throat frills) and lack the intense coloration on the frills and wings like she does. Female horn arrangement also differs. Curiously she also exhibits behavior more in common with mature males; aggressive, dominant and "pushy." However despite these differences, she is still a viable female.
~Cometwings are unusual as far as true dragons go in that they are cooperative pack hunters not unlike Earth wolves, hyenas and lions. Their packs almost never number more than eight though, and related wyrmlings when born into an already large pack will often strike out on their own after a few years with others of their age to start a new one.
~Her dragon variety are most definitely fire breathers and are best suited to living in cold climates, usually in bogs, tundra and boreal forests, occasionally in mountain foothills as well. She is what dracomorphologists call "anti-coexistent" with her inner element and the biome she is adapted to, in other words a dragon that uses her fiery energy and physical adaptations to survive the antithesis (cold) instead of being adapted for hot climates.
~Hunts like a harrier in that when stalking or searching by air, will fly slowly and deliberately close to the ground to survey before taking prey by surprise. Also is well-suited to hunting on the ground, loping overground and running prey like a sighthound in the instance where an aerial attack is less effective. Naturally she has great hearing and vision.
~As mentioned in the reference, she has two sets of tail frills; one set, the one oriented vertically, is used during high-speed chases for extra agility and turning capability, while the horizontal set is for stability and movement during flight. A specialized array of tendons keep both frills from opening at once, making it so that only one set can be open at a time.
~Diet is highly omnivorous, more so than a lot of true dragons. Typical foods include: Meat, bones, woody or fibrous plants, berries and shellfish to name a few. Jaws are powerful and used in conjunction with the opposable front claws to hold down and strangle prey.

~Personality~

Rough, abrasive and often very brusque and aloof with most people, she generally recognizes strength of character through strength of arms, although if one could prove themselves useful or effective they could potentially gain her respect and trust, much like how Gart had to do. Somewhat vain (although perhaps less so than other dragons) she can quickly get unpleasant if someone does not take her seriously or give her due credit for her abilities. She does however have a keen sense of humor, at least as keen as a biting wind half the time. In the right mood she enjoys carousing or being mischievous, playing pranks and generally being bothersome to Gart. She does at least have a strong sense of justice and likes their role in Lucent as the "lone Sheriffs" in an otherwise unruly and rough town. Despite her pride, she almost never abuses her power over the populace due to said sense of justice, and she and Gart do well to keep checks and balances over each others' personalities.

I think this is really awesome, and I love their species name now that you've nailed it down. It's crazy how when we talk about it, it seems like so much less than it actually is on text.

By the way you forgot to mention that she's a "damn unruly overgrown lizard"
