Tulips by slushpuppy

Tulips

slushpuppy

Original Tulip painting is by Jacob Marrel during the 1500's I think it was.

My assignment was to take a value study of the drawing and reproduce it in color. I did not have access to a color copy of Jacob's painting.

Colored pencil, class w/ Carol Morely

I favorited this on FA, and I fully intend to do so here as well! I'm actually familiar with the original painting, and I think you did an amazing job translating that to pencil, especially considering you were only using the values from it. I myself need to get back in the habit of doing more value studies; it really enhances an artist's skill with realism.

      Squee!
I haven't seen anything more than a photocopy, but now I've seen a color photocopy!
      :)
I hadn't ever really bothered with detailed value studies before. Just usually I block out the large shadows and lights. But I think it's a habit I'll change in preference for the more detailed route.
