Lasé (looking for advice) by Zuff (critique requested)

Lasé (looking for advice) (critique requested)

Zuff

Intro Lasé. Named her when I was young, and I hate the name. Can't get rid of it now, though, as she has been around longest for me. I usually just end up calling her "Laze" and ignore the correct pronunciation now-a-days. :P

Anyway, yeah. There are hundreds of things wrong with this image that make it look off. Mostly the (lack of) proper anatomy. I uploaded it in the hopes that someone can take a look and go "Oh yeah, this little part is easy to fix if you know/do *this*." Or perhaps even just point me towards some links that could help. I have tried so many things and just can't seem to learn how to draw living things even somewhat decently.

If anyone has advice, it is much appreciated. Thanks.

Looking at your works, it is easy to come to the conclusion that you're a beginner. That's okay though, everyone has to start somewhere, yes? First looking at is, I can say that I'm very pleased with the Laze's design. Her equipment and facial expression tell a lot about her. My favorite feature of the piece is her head. Her head is designed to be nice on the eye and I'm a big fan of her facial expression. I also very much like her rolled up sleeves and her collar. I can't tell if she has some kind of turtle necked shirt or if it is a scarf. Either way I do quite like. Overall, a good design job on your part. Now for the parts that could use work. You are right, the anatomy is off. It's very hard to get anatomy down, it's even harder to bring that anatomy into your own art style. There are a lot of art tutorials out there on various art websites. Maybe you could look at those and see if you could learn something. I think another thing you could do is to keep an observant eye out on your surroundings. Look at the people around you, look at yourself, look at everything and everyone, and take mental note. Notice how long the arms span when limp, that might be a decent start for you. Honestly, I'm barely an artist, I'm just a critic. I'm not sure what else I could give you in terms on anatomical advice. I can say to you though that I did enjoy looking at this piece of work. Please keep practicing, because I would love to see more.

Thank you very much for taking the time to give me such good feedback and encouragement! :)

I will take your advice into account, especially that of observing others. Given I can do it without looking like a creepy stalker of sorts. :P I have the knowledge of basic measurements of the body in my head. Things like length of arms in respect to the torso, body height, width of shoulders, etc. etc., but I usually fail at actually applying it. Perhaps some extra observation will help out.

Artist or not, your advice will help. Again, thank you.
