Summary of Art 2020

Part One: Year Reflection

This year has been absolutely batshit crazy. I can barely remember all that's happened this year, it's been such an emotional rollercoaster for literally everyone.

This was a big year for me. It's hard to believe I was still at SCAD before the summer. That Spring quarter was the straw that broke the camel's back, and having one more quarter online like that there would have pushed me over the metaphorical edge. I switched schools in June and am now studying Elementary Education at a local non-art college. This was probably the biggest event for me this year, besides moving to a new state right as everything shut down in March. And that change of schools was the best decision of my life so far, despite it all being online still.

This was a rough year for art. It took me until last and this year to for the first time in my life to actually hate my own artwork. SCAD really ruined my self-confidence and it's something I'm slowly working on building back. And I'm happy to say that since tranferring out, I'm gaining that confidence back, little steps at a time. There were a few months where I could barely find any drawings, and one or two were actually drawn in other months, but I had posted them later so I'm counting them.
Art Fight came at JUST the right time this year as it was just as I was transferring out and needed a creative outlet. Thank you to everyone who attacked me this year, it was just what I needed and over the month I was able to create over 60 pieces.

I did not do much work on any of my original stories this year- most of my attention was pushed onto school and switching. I don't really have any goals for any of them for the coming year; I jump around on which one I'm working on too often anyways to make promises for any one in particular. I can only say I hope to work on them more this coming year as I continue to settle into my new school.

I almost forgot that I had a Patreon for the first half of the year! I had started it as an attempt to get back into my own artwork, and build some self confidence back up, but ultimately it ended up not helping and only added more stress. I had to close it after June, but I appreciate the few people who decided to support me there. Thank you very much. I don't think I'll be opening another any time soon, but we will see. For now I'll stick with Ko-fi if anyone wants to support me that way <3

Something I'm super excited about though, is my commissions! I've really really enjoyed working on commissions through December, and I'm hoping to have a commission livestream either once a week, or once every other week (school schedule and workload depending). Thank you everyone who commissioned me this year so far, and I look forward to possibly working with you again <3

As for plans for next year, I don't really have any. I would like to try to do a monthly illustration again. I was hoping to do it this year, but as mentioned above, school and lack of self-confidence greatly affected that. I would also like to stream more often, including commission streams, nuzlocke streams and general art streams. I'm also hoping to take on a volunteer position so everything will be schedule depending.

Anyways, that's enough rambling from me, let's get into the artwork from this year.

Part Two: Artwork

January: Red and Pip
January is one of the months I had almost no drawings from, so out of the few options this was my favorite. I drew my Leafeonsona and my friend, Cloudpool's character Pip together! There's not much to say on it, other than I like the stickeresque style and I need to draw Leafeon! Red more often.

February: Sleepy Boys
Dantaylor!! This couple has a special place in my heart. I love them so much. I don't remember much about the time I was making this, other than it was slow and between a lot of homework assignments. I need to draw my boys more often, god I love them so much.
I attempted a "pseudo-anime screenshot" look for this piece and sort of like it's turn out? May or may not do more of these if I can think of any in the future. Overall am very happy with it's turnout.

March: Serenity
I have much disdain for this piece and the other two that accompany it. I would say I'm happy with the final result, but the assignment and class it stemmed from left me with such a bitter taste in my mouth I'm hesitant to say anything good about it.
Long story short: storyboarding class required us to do FULLY RENDERED illustrations for an assignment that wasn't akin to storyboarding in the slightest.
I'm a stubborn bitch who refused to paint humans like my professor wanted, and I'm glad I stuck to my guns and worked with dogs. Fit much better in my opinion.

April: h-hetaoni,,,
Another month where I didn't find much if any art, and the drawing here is ACTUALLY from March during the springbreak right before everything shut down, woops.
Despite that this isn't actually from April, I still super like this stupid sketch. Hetaoni has a big place in my heart and I have such a soft spot for it. Drawing sassy Italy and Steve was good. Especially since I was playing Hetaoni during that spring break as well; I didn't finish but I got pretty far. I still miss Hetaoni, but I don't see myself continuing my comic any time soon.

May: Crimson
May was a really rough time for me. I didn't do much of anything other than schoolwork, and it was around this time I came out with my first unlimited slot YCH (which are still available if interested). I did so many of these, whether through commissions or as gifts for friends. I was in such an art rut that it was the only thing I was able to bring myself to draw.
The one I picked in particular is of my own character, Crimsonheart when she's all grown up. I had designed her pretty soon before and wanted to do more artwork of her. I'm in absolute love with her final design and I can't wait to work with her more in The Valley in the future.

June: Sun Prophecy
June was a slow month for art as well, since my last quarter at SCAD was coming to a close, and I was in the process of transferring. I only did a few art trades; the one I picked for this summary was on I did with my friend, Saharikya. Based on the description I guess this was around the time where I was really having trouble with consistency. I don't really have much to say about the piece. I like the colors and the lighting. I was sort of testing the waters on some cell-shading stuff but that's about it. The background is probably my favorite part. I really like the mix between reds, golds and blacks.

July: Wings of Fire Soul of Light
As mentioned in part one, art fight came at just the right time for me. I did an astonishing amount of art during July, all ranging in different qualities and techniques. I picked what is probably my overall favorite piece from Art Fight for this summary. Like June's I really liked the contrast of the red, gold and dark colors of the backgrounds and the effects of the firey wings. I still reference this image and how I drew the fire when drawing fire now. I love the colors and the lighting on this one a whole lot and overall I think it's just nice to look at. Thank you Snowy-Eevee for letting me draw your character <3
Not pictured here: but this was the first month I finally said "screw it" and started to learn how to draw anthro characters.

August: Of Rain and Snow
August haaaad almost nothing. I did a few outfit designs for my sona, but otherwise kind of fell back into the rut I was in pre-art fight. That being said, I was still pissed off at a class I had in the spring quarter at SCAD and how my scriptwriting professor at the time had a very one track mind on what makes a comic good. And so to combat him and my frustrations I took a script I wrote for his class (bless all my friends in Cyra-king's discord server for letting me use your characters for this) and decided to pace the story how I wanted it to be paced and turn it into an actual comic. No more of this whole story in only six pages crap, I was gonna make it into a full fledged short comic approx 20ish pages. However, since then I've only managed to make the cover (which is pictured here), all the site assets and the first page. New school picked up in the latter end of August so I didn't get to do much more after that. I'm currently working on the second page, and I hope next year I'll be able to make more progress on it. Of Rain and Snow is a side project and is being used to get back into the practice of making comics for myself, something I didn't do a whole lot of since going to SCAD and I'm still trying to get back into the swing of things. Maybe next year will be better as I continue my artistic journey.
The characters on the cover belong to Cloudpool8 and Cyra-King.

September: The Worst Vampire
September I only did the few drawings for OCtember (which I didn't get very far in anyways) since my new school was kicking my butt, at least until I dropped a certain class. There wasn't many options to pick from, but I went with my good son, Mugwort. September was the month I made him and was my current character obsession at the time. Really not much else to say other than I love Mug. He was super fun to play as too,,,

October: Drowning
Hahahaha school kicked my butt, but in a good way, finally. I was attempting to do a list of Goretober prompts, but only managed to sneak in three drawings in the whole month for it (minus my halloween art). This probably has to be one of my favorite pieces from the whole year. It was entirely my own, nothing for school, nothing for anyone else, just for me of my own characters.
Chivalry is a project that's been stuck in development hell for years now, but I'm still working on it however slowly that may be.
I love everything about this piece if I'm gonna be honest, the colors look nice, I really love the water and just the symbolism I threw in there. Keeping things spoiler free for the story, but aaaa I love Oliver. Poor bby. The theme of "Drowning" has always been prevalent in this story, but now instead of Mikau, it applies to Oliver and it's just so much better.
I may or may not have another Chivalry based illustration idea in the reserves for next year :3

November: Shifting
November was the month I was on a "Leon kick". Was super into drawing him and giving him all of my attention. School had just gotten out and I was raring to draw again and who better to do so with than my main oc himself? I believe I also hosted a contest around the same time with him as the theme, hehe. I had also always wanted to revamp Leon's "half-wolf" form and I think I've found something I'm happy with. The piece itself was just practice with posing and lighting to a degree, but in reality I just wanted to draw Leon.
Check out this AWESOME animated version made by TyGamess

December: Little Miss Santa and Her Reindeer
I drew, a SHIT ton in December. This is the month I finally got some of my confidence back. I'm still working on building it, but this was a good step in the right direction. I decided to open commissions and finish my website and I'm so incredibly thankful for everyone who has commissioned me this year! I've been having loads of fun working on them.
Anyways focus on the piece here, Red.
For December I usually put in my Christmas/Holiday drawing. There's not much to say about this one. I think it's very cute. I'm really enjoying giving Kagerou cute outfits and I really enjoy drawing Leon and Kagerou together.

Part Three: Conclusion

i'm too tired to write an actual conclusion. these are always the longest descriptions i ever write and they get longer and longer every year oh no.
if you read it all congrats. have a virtual gluten free cookie. see ya next year!
