Summary of Art 2019

XRedMoon

Oh boy. This time already? Feels like I JUST filled one of these out.

Hi! Welcome to my summary of art 2019. This was a year of expanding my content out to other reaches of the internet. I got more active on Twitter, made accounts on Fur Affinity and Weasyl. It's been kind of a rough year.

I finished my freshman year of college (spring quarter was awful), had a stressful summer full of constant trips and had an emotionally troubling start to my sophomore year.
Spring quarter had me working nonstop on my Online class, even through my brother's graduation to get my projects done. That project was Dog Days. But even before that, I had to make so many pages a week it was tiring. I finished the class with a B but that wasn't enough for me. I decided to retake the class, and I'm glad I did despite the school telling me I wouldn't get an A. I retook the class this past quarter NOT online. I passed with a 100. I think my professor talked to the school-- because they did raise my grade despite the school insisting they wouldn't. This is the same professor that low key told me to drop out bceause I'm already making quality comics. I uh.. Think I made an impression on him. And I made a LOT of great comics this past quarter. I'm proud of them. We only had to do 1-2 pages a week instead of 4-5. I was able to focus more time in the quality. My personal favorite from this quarter was my PokemonxCuphead crossover and page two of my Earthbound comic. I managed to get into my next comics class this coming quarter (starts next week) so heres hoping I do well!

It's been a whole year since I decided Pokemon wouldn't be my main thing anymore, and this coming year I want to continue pushing away from it. I'm still developing the Formless and Bearers. This coming year I want to practice more with animal anatomy and different body shapes to make them even more distinct. I want to design others of Colby's species. (It always bothered me that when Colby was a Bulbasaur people called him a cat, now he's a cat and people call him a Bulbasaur). I'm not sure if The Valley and The Far Hollow will return as comics. As it is right now, they're looking to turn into a series of videos set to songs that fit entire arcs, but we'll see what happens when the time comes for me to start working on it.

This was also the year I passed 1,000 watchers! I know not everyone is active, but I appreciate it immensely. I want to get back into doing monthly illustrations. School this year kept me from it, but I'm hoping to at least try!

Last year, I said I wanted to start Chivalry. Pffft. While that didnt' happen, I made some progress on it's development. But it kind of got overshadowed by Project:Monochrome/Voice of Legend and Bleach's story. Sorry Chivalry. You'll get your spotlight one day. Still not sure if I want it to be a webcomic or a published comic.

I played DnD for the first time about a week ago! It was a blast and I definitely want to draw some of the scenes from our campaign-- which started as a oneshot but is getting a continuation from our DM based on an event that happened.

Okay enough rambling from me at this point. I'm SURE i missed something important but oh well. Time to move onto the art pieces.

January: Capture
Leon! This was one of my first attempts at a "painted" shading style. I still love how it turned out, but looking back there's quite a few anatomical errors. Otherwise, still one of my favorite pieces from this year. The arrows are also symbolic of where he once had wings, since I scrapped them from his character design.

February: Run Boltleaf Run
This was at the point of my life where I would bring my huge ass laptop to english class and draw. My professor was awesome--even let me crochet in class for another class's homework. ANyways, this was when I was first starting to redesign my characters. I'm still working on it, but this is Boltleaf. I still like the colors on this one. Pretty happy with it.

March: Blinding Rose
I really like pieces that involve the contrast of light and shadow. This is no different. BUT that same English class, we had an essay. One of the options was to rewrite Plato's Cave allegory into a modern setting (plato fanfiction). And for our final project, we had to present a visual piece that had to do with SOMETHING we did or read in the class. So I illustrated a possible cover for my essay/fanfic. Honestly, I'm glad I had this assignment, helped me develop Jackson more as a character even if the actual fanfic isn't canon.

April: Lovely Day for a Meeting
Still not sure as to WHY I put so much effort into this. Nor do I know why I put SO MANY characters in here. But this was a contest entry for the Eevee Kingdom over on Deviantart. I still really like this one, brought back some old faces (well, to me at least) and introduced some new ones. I like this one. Colors are pretty uwu

May: Dog Days- Page 1
Oof. This was the first page of my final for my Online Intro to Sequential Class. And it's what I wanted the rest of the comic to look like if I had had more than a week to do it all. If I could do it again, I would have fixed the placement of the initial "doggy's". They're in the wrong spot for the direction of reading. Woops.

June: Bamboo Stroll
Earlier this year in around March I hosted a 500? or 800? watcher's contest (i forget) and this was the grand prize! It took me months to get to. But I love these characters and how flowy Ume looks!! The background I could have spent more time on, but I was getting anxious about how long this was taking me, so this was the result. and I'm super happy with how it turned out.

July: Shall We Dance?
clap clap clap
Birthday present for both my friend and character Leon (they share a borthday)
Okay so I made this in the crazy stressful summer I was having. And this piece just took me SO long because it was one of the most complexly shaded pieces I've ever done and I still love it. I love these two. But I won't be doing something so complicated any time soon unless I give myself more time. I rushed to finish this. never again.

August: Arctic Dragon Thing
I didn't do much in August, so I picked a switcharound meme I did with @cyra-king and @flame-shadow on Deviantart. I picked the one I colored because I'm super happy with it. Shad's dragon designs are kickass and I loved coloring this dude. Thanks guys for doing this with me!

September: Kiiboy and Kirb
September doesn't exist. What're you talking about?
Anyways, school picked back up and I was super busy early on, but I managed to finish this piece for the Pokemon Charities hosted by @TommyGK . I had just rediscovered a K1-B0 eevee design I made and thought he was "space"y enough for the collab. Kiiboy and Kirb! Love them.

October: Leon Through the Years
This was my worst year for inktober! I got only two done and a third sketched but was extremely far behind anyways. I made my own prompt list, day one being "Oldest OC" I went with how long I've had them over actual age, and of course it was Leon. More is written about this piece in better detail on the actual post itself, but basically these are most of the forms he's taken over the years all the way up to where he is now.

November: Crystal Foxes and Boy Taylor
Drawing for my character Taylor's birthday. I drew Taylor a LOT this year, lol. But that's okay. He's good son. I don't have much to say about this one. Is cute, but not my favorite from the year.

December: Relax
Definitely one of my favorite pieces from this year. I didn't draw Colby and Navi much since redesigning them late last year, but it was good to draw them again. This was part of a character Q+A, and I got the question in September, probably started around then too, but I FINISHED the piece in December, so I'm counting it as such. One of my goals for next year is continue practicing painting backgrounds, and I think this was a good start. Kind of disappointed that I ran out of steam to actually made a legit christmas card this year, but this will suffice for my December piece since it's so pretty to look at imo.

That's it! you did it. You read the whole thing. Give yourself a pat on the back and a bag full of gummy frogs. These descriptions are always so long, but tis the way of reflection.

In short: I want to continue pushing my original works, get back in to monthly illustrations, work on more personal art and less commission work, and definitely getting into more comics than just for school. Will post a goals journal later.
Onwards to next year!
