Police Dog Ch. 6 – Funeral (critique requested)

wwwolf

There is only one police officer in the small town of West Woodburn, England. His name is Forty-Two, and he is a Dog. Genetically engineered and bred to conform to the ideal standard, he can do anything a human can. His kind are so dedicated to their task that society no longer sees any reason to pay for human police.

Forty-Two's quiet, rural life is shattered when a murderer begins stalking everyone the Dog has ever called friend.

The greatest scientific advancements come from war, and the Dog program is no exception. Originally developed as living weapons for World War II, it wasn't long after that they were repurposed to their current role. It's only been fifty years, and not all men have forgotten that Dogs, like their masters, fought on both sides.

Forty-Two must track down the killer and suppress the case before an inquiry can be launched. Any investigation into Forty-Two's own past would reveal that he too has secrets to hide. While he is far too young to have any memories of war, Forty-Two's unmasking would destroy all confidence in the Dogs that now carry the justice system.

Back in West Woodburn, the young Jonathan Hyatt is laid to rest, but peace does not come quickly. The Master Constable has arrived, and Forty-Two must fight to put out the flames.

Aww, he used the same pet name for Trevor as he did for Forty-One...

      You're observant! :-)
I guess Forty-Two sees him as a... ahh, but that would be telling too much!

looks at opening paragraph Well someone saw the right wing masterbation film from the 80's 90's called red dawn.

Actually, I've never watched Red Dawn, though I do know of it!

That particular line was more inspired by an old BBC documentary called The War Game. It was filmed and completed, but they wouldn't release it as the corporation said "the effect of the film has been judged by the BBC to be too horrifying for the medium of broadcasting..."

Or it could be a critical line referencing something yet to come in the story... nah...

In the original red dawn, not the remake. Both are very bad movies btw. The russians start an invasion of america by dropping paratroopers and equipment into a no name alaskan small town. An equivalent of where 42 is posted.

Interesting. For some reason I thought it was in the contiguous US. Texas or Colorado or some place like that. Alaska would make more sense though.

Thankfully I can say that no war breaks out in Police Dog. The story is a little too low-key for that!

not really. the 80's one is right wing anti communist porn. the remake is both unbearable to watch, and laughably bad. both for its story and the fact that when it was being made the antagonists were chinese. The chinese consulate here in the states got word of the film so in the final version has people speaking chinese, wearing altered uniforms to look north korean and using obviously chinese military equipment.
