Both Hans and Rick come from families at the poorer end of Avania’s socioeconomic ladder; along with their stubborn dispositions, this made them no stranger to schoolyard scraps and neighborhood fistfights. However, their mutual backgrounds made them natural comrades even when Hans was later able to become a commissioned officer.
