Theme of the main protagonist from ECO, Versearrun. Although Verse is no hero, we see the world through Verse's eyes, on a meandering journey lead by one. Verse is a very, very complex person, who functions on a mountain of coping mechanisms, denial, cold calculation. Verse's moral standards are quite low, and even for a fox-kin, some of the things she does and says can seem deplorable.

And yet, it seems like all of this might just be an act to protect herself. After all, what use are friends if they just leave or die? A good reason for her excessive greed might be that she knows money won't betray her (unless she's drunk and gambling) like people always have. Best to live sheltered behind great iron walls, than to open your gates for a Trojan horse.

There is a guiding light inside her, urging her to open up, but for years, she's ignored it. For a long time, she's also put her past behind her, but it is finally about to catch up to her, and engulf her. She may be no hero, but this is her story.
