This doesn't sound drunk at all to me. Rather, it sounds like '80s fusion, which I think is good in this case. Nice job overall!

I had spent most of the day I made this listening to pretty much every Swing Out Sister song ever made, from their 80s pop to their modern jazz, so I think that's mostly what was at work here. Thank you very much! :D I'm glad you liked it!

It sounda like Sonic CD, Sonic Advance and Sonic Adventure to me but correct me if I'm wrong :3

    Also, brilliant job as usual!

Yeah, that was pretty much what I was goin' for! :D A kind of union of those, and Sonic Colo(u)rs!

Thank you, too!! I'll have the second one up soon-ish. It's done, but I like to space out uploads a bit.

Your work sounds a little more.. polished(?) than most of the Sonic tracks, like a standalone official soundtrack arrangement or something.

Oh yeah! Like those 'arranged' albums they used to put out back in the day? Those were really neat!!

          • Link

That's definitely what I was referring to! There's just something about the way they sounded..

I still like this one a lot. Maybe one day I manage to finish the real MD arrangement of it...

I really hope so! :D You still have the MIDI, don'cha?

      • Link

Yes, it is in my music tool folder with an import file next to it, waiting to be made sense of lol. MIDI import is tricky business haha

Eek! I hope you're able to get it workin'! I bet it'll sound neat!! :D

The main problem is that some notes end up in wrong time slots, or all of them end up weird. Other problem is finding the right channels for different pieces, it is lot of work but once things are set in place everything will be a breeze. The tool has been made with lot of input from the composers in mind, so editing is very smooth :)

God, that sounds like a rainforest of its own, just trying to sort everything out properly. XD I have faith in you, though! You got dis. :3

MIDI is incredibly hostile format to work with, it is good for storing but not so much for editing... But when some rules are followed the timing info can be made "rigid" which makes all those timing problems I described disappear.

It seems to adhere to all sorts of crazy rules that were made by hundreds of different people or something. XD That said, the editor I use to make all my music still uses MIDI input, which is how I'm recording. xD S'pose it's one of those things that will always endure! It's also why it's so easy for me to export to MIDI, even if it makes some things come out kind of weird.

MIDI travelling in the cables and MIDI inside *.MID files are totally not same. The one inside cables is awesome.

Ohhhh. I never thought about that, but I thiiink I see what'cha mean.

                      • Link

I have not yet added MIDI data input support to my tools. Once I do you could probably just "play" the stuff into the music tool and touch up later as needed. Hit play in tracker, start playing on the keyboard, music is recorded.
Also, what do you think of having navigation on the keyboard itself ? I had this idea where I reserve like one octave as navigation keys in the tool, so you don't even have to go near the computer. I think nobody has done it before...?

That's an interesting idea -- especially for keyboardists whose keyboards are away from their computers (of which there are several!) I bet some people would find it a useful option!
