Dazed in the Afternoon

And as he gazed, he realized his own mortality. And for that, he was glad.

Wow this took forever!!! D: Usually this would've taken me under a week to complete and I guess in the total hours it wasn't much, but with my attempts to complete Volume 1 of my comic all personal art has been put on hold--or at least when I find time to finish them. So with everything going on this took me over a month in what little free time I have.
I can't even begin to tell you how much this made me feel better. I took a break this weekend from comic making and finished this while my hubby was playing Dark Souls 2.
I tried complimenting the blue beads by adding blue on the skull but it's difficult to see.

I wish I could explain the drive to make this drawing but I can't. It popped into my head one day and I had to complete it otherwise I was gonna go nuts lol I felt such an urge to get what I saw in my head on paper. But as we're all artists here, I'm sure you guys understand that kind of motivation. I suppose there's a message behind this picture, try to see if you can interpret it! :D

The picture is larger than my scanner so I had to take a picture and try fixing it in photoshop. If the quality is weird or if some colors are hard to see, please keep this in mind.
As always, the original looks better than this crappy digital version :\

Now that I'm looking at this far away I see my mistakes. The muzzle is too long, the ears are too small, and I think the skull is a little long.

I hope you guys like this!! Enjoy it, it may be another while before I can upload another piece personal art again ^^;
Approx. Time: 12 hours in 1 month span.
Tools: Prismacolor pencils, pen, gouache.

I'd actually have to disagree with the muzzles; I think they're the right lengths, but because their both downcast it gives the illusion that their longer. :3 If you were to raise them a little high and change the perspective slightly to accommodate for the change, it might give the look you looking for. :3 It might help too to move the right wolf's right eye a tad? It seems scrunched up against the muzzle, which can also make it look longer. :3

I actually really like what you did with the colors; I never could get color pencils to work for me, let alone mix properly to give this softly shaded look you've got, especially on the wolf's mane beneath his ears.

Lovely work, well done as always, and I wouldn't beat yourself up too hard on it. :3

Thanks so much! owo Whenever I do downcast muzzles it always seems so strange XD But next time I do something similar to this, I'll refer to these helpful words you've given me <3 And I agree about the right eye, it does look a little wonky but more to practice on,right? X3

I feel like next time I do a traditional piece, colored pencils won't be as generous X3 lolz I had to do so many layers, starting with the lightest color. First I did a base of very diluted watercolors then when they were dry I started using the colored pencils. To blend the fur I used the white colored pencil, blenders that you buy from art stores work better, but our stores here don't carry as many supplies at they should lolz :)

More than welcome, and I totally understand that; I can't get any muzzle other than the side or 3/4 view. XD I'm glad that I can offer some advice and be helpful, at this rate I didn't think there'd be anything I could offer other than another pair of eyes because, honestly, I think you're a better artist than me. xP
Getting the other eye to look right on any 3/4 pose is such a pain, and I have issues getting the angle right. :/ It'll look too slanted most of the time and look really awkward. XD
See, though, that there, what you know to get the layering to work right with the pencils? I can't do that and I have issues doing that even digitally! XD At most I have a base color layer with a shadow and light layer, but that's it! XDXD
I can see white working well to blend, that makes sense, and I picked up a few blenders as well from the local store when I tried dabbling with them, but even then they didn't work for me as well as I would have liked. :/ Tried shading and getting things to smooth out with my mechanical pencil, and it just looked bad. XD
