A Mother Aereon and her Whelps by Wilren

A Mother Aereon and her Whelps

Wilren

Ever since I first made a post of random Aereon facts, I’ve had this rather adorable mental image in my head of a mother wyrm (female Aereon) nursing some newborn whelps, still young enough that their fur and pinions have barely started to grow out yet.

I opted on a vulpine color scheme on a whim, to add some diversity to the species. Her use of her wing to shade her whelps while they fed was accidental, but I’m very glad it turned up. :D

Her mate is presumably somewhere in the nearby river, catching fish; as I mentioned in the factoids, Aereon drakes (males) are rather proficient divers, and their diet is primarily pescetarian (as opposed to my own; I can’t really stand the smell or taste of fish), and while berries and small fruit are a staple, fish makes up the majority of it.

As for mama, though? She’s just laying back and letting her little ones have lunch.
