The fiery Pele from Hawaiian legend. Most people associate fire and lava with destruction, but in Hawaii it is also considered a creative force. Where the lava meets the sea, it cools and hardens, creating new land. The process is slow and sure, but all Hawaiian islands are created this way.
Late 2011, I was invited to enter the Society of Illustrators student scholarship competition. This was one of my entries (I didn't win, but there is always next year!).
