Humans migrated to Earth's oceans to flee the damage they had wrought on the surface; over hundreds of years by means of pollution and global warming. Vast cities now exist underwater, and humans live somewhat peaceful lives. The deeper they ventured however, the more the immense pressure affected them. Some went mad, insane or died of organ failure due to slow and gradual weakening. To mitigate this, the governments of Earth created to SNB program, or "Subversive Nanite Bioengineering" program. It sought to remedy the pressure based ailments by transferring shark DNA into human biology. The first trials transformed most Homo Sapiens into hybrid creatures that possessed humanoid forms but shark extremities; while the latter procedures were successful in keeping human appearances intact. First batch hybrids eventually went to the surface to escape bigotry and persecution; their spliced DNA allowing them to breath both surface and liquid oxygen. However, human governments sought to eliminate them; branding them are terrorists and a lesser race. Some hybrids were called upon to enter the Apex Storm initiative, helping the human based governments in committing genocide against their own kind for citizenship and naturalized freedoms. Vortex LightGear is a first batch hybrid Humanoid/Mako shark. He is also one of the government's top mercenaries who is finally witnessing the blood of his own people wash over his hands in the name of personal gain.
