Premade Fursuit WIP - Furred Head (Ugh...)

Volt Siano

Soooo... It's not turning out very well...
The head isn't as large on the inside as I had intended it to be, but that's fine. What bothers me is all the irregularities that showed up after furring. The eyes aren't even, the muzzle is awkwardly short, and in general there are a few places where the fur is crimped due to the way it was stored before purchase (bottom right picture is an example).
So here's the plan:

  • Replace/lengthen muzzle
  • Add more of a smile to the cheeks (because, naturally, I forgot to do that)
  • Even out eyes, if at all possible
  • Maybe use a hairdryer and brush to straighten out those crimped areas of fur. (Yes, this is the way to do it; there are tutorials online from trusted sources such as Matrices; I only say "maybe" because I'm not too sure of myself to use this method.)

What's shown above isn't what I had envisioned. But maybe that's not a bad thing? Let me know what you think, and what changes I should make.

For clarification, when I say "crimping," I'm referring to an area where the fur bends and sticks out at awkward, noticeable angles due to being folded tightly for too long.

I hope you manage to fix it! Good luck! :D

Wellllll... If you make larger ears and change the pattern for the nose, this could make a decent rabbit, or some other short-faced animal that's fairly popular. I do agree that the eyes do need a little evening out, but I unfortunately don't have experience in making fursuits. D:

I asked a friend to have a look here, and he gave me some suggestions to pass along. I'll note you cause it's super long.

Fair enough. Thanks for asking him!

For the uneven eyes issue, have you tried making a paper pattern of the eyes and then trace that onto the head? It wouldn't do much good now, but it might help prevent that problem for your next 'suit. As for using heat to un-crinkle the fur, do you have a scrap piece that needs straightened out? If you're not confident you can do it on the final product, you can always practice on scraps first.

With the shape of the ears and how short the muzzle is, you could probably get away with turning it into a serval cat.
