My gnome, Fulmin finds himself with a friend he was not expecting.

Story:
Fulmin thought the beast glorious when it swooped in with its orc master riding it. But it turned out to be an enemy. The orc raised an ogre we had just fought as an undead, summoned an earth elemental, and then attempted to fly off on his manticore mount. Our group wasn't going to stand for that. Ayeala the elf took out a grappling hook and caught the beast near its tail. We jumped onto the rope and eventually everyone jerked it back to the ground!
We immediately began to fight the two. The ogre and elemental were still far away. We traded blows with the manticore but I had an idea. Using the Speak with Animals spell I talked to the manticore and let it know that we easily slew the ogre before. They were outnumbered. And if it kept fighting it would be killed right after we took out its master.
It listened to me, hesitating, so I rushed forward telling the others to stop attacking it. All I asked for was that it not attack us. It didn't take its attack of opportunity on me and actually stopped fighting.

As soon as the orc reacted he must have realized he'd lost his mount. He immediately teleported away. The jerk.
But the manticore stuck around after the battle. Fulmin gave it some food from a bowl of sustenance we had found and (though it tastes like crap) it appreciated the gesture. Now it's following us and it even made a mental bond with Fulmin. He likes the creature, for certain, but he's uncertain with how he feels about it being so friendly so quickly.
