i dug up pics of opal and dante from 2012 and then redrew them as they are now omg
the thing that gets me most about these fellas is that like,,, from when i first made them way back sometime around 2005-06, dante was always such a dark, broody little piece of shit and im like lookin back at that like........dante why. dont do that. jesus christ dante what the fuck were you doing. i cannot tell you people enough how absolutely elated i am that hes evolved into being a very gentle, soft-spoken and reserved withered old man
and then with opal, when i dug this shit up i was like??? wtf she had freckles????? she had freckles!!!!!! i completely forgot that one of her iterations had freckles im so mad. im so mad, those freckles are so fucking cute. im bringing them back. im putting those fuckin freckles onto her current design. not much to say about that old version of her other than uh...for some reason it reminds me of joan of arc. no idea why. just does
amazing, ive had these characters for so many fucking years and they just kept on going

aaa yes, its fun and embarrassing at the same time bc what the heck was i thinkin back then
its good to see improvement tho. like, lookin at really wide spaces between time it becomes so much more apparent rather than at like, just weeks/months of normal pacing bc its harder to perceive in that timeframe-
yeah, design changes often happen so subtly and organically that in short times you don't rly percieve them much.. but then it adds up over the years so you're like whoa!! they got really different wow!! and you find stuff you hate about the old designs of course but also neat little things you forgot about... it's such a neat process wow. OCs are so cool.....

yessss that too! looking at these two like, id say dante changed most drastically in personality and mannerisms(with his design changing in varying degrees of subtely to reflect it) while opal changed most in actual visual design while her core attitude has generally stayed pretty similarly consistent

reminiscing about old characters is so fun omg... especially ones who've been with you all along. It's so cool, seeing them grow and change as you develop as an artist. It's clear these guys have come a long way! :>
