Mostly just a personal piece but figured it might touch others as well. Minor bits of symbolism.

Nudity as far as showing others your body is generally the last thing most ever find out about you at least in western cultures. Symbolizing the knowing all about someone. It takes a lot of trust and love to do that for most. (On a more personal note the addition of lengthening Shizu's generally non-existant hair gives her a much more feminine look which is a side I don't really outwardly show to many irl.)

Choice of quote stems from the fact that I believe one can love their friends just as much as they may love a lover or someone else even if it is shown in a different way. After all what is a lover if not your friend first? This doesn't mean a lover cannot be put first if needed or even wanted.
