Games I have been playing, part 4

Unimpressive

Dragon View: These guys are assholes. You'll face multiple palette swaps of them throughout the game and they might actually be the most obnoxious enemy I've ever seen in any video game. They are equal parts the Red Arremer from Ghosts 'n' Goblins and the dog from Duck Hunt.

Nelson Tethers: Puzzle Agent: Yeah, I'm not claiming unique insight here.

Super Castlevania IV: I will one-credit this game. But first I have to stop getting punk'd by this one stupid merman that likes to pop up and knock me out as I'm swinging over the water.

The Binding of Isaac: Some games are unfortunate tragedies, otherwise great works completely ruined by a single stupid design decision. Battletoads is well-crafted and inventive with a unique array of challenges and environments, but its deranged difficulty renders all its strengths irrelevant. Dragon Quest IX should be fantastic, but its interface design veers past "old school" into "unforgiveably primitive" and it should only be played by those with a saintly patience for watching text scroll. The Binding of Isaac is a mechanically solid Roguelike/shooter that's impossible to enjoy because the entire experience reeks of the most retarded Newgrounds vomit.

Dungeon Defenders: I can't say that much about the game itself; it's tower defence. You build big elaborate meat grinders and enemies walk into them. The interface has some hilariously awkward failings, though, like the inability to use a 't' when naming an item when you have 't' set to open a chat window.

I actually caught some flack on deviantART for not liking the game. Some poor kid who was probably just surfing the BoI tag strolled up to tell me I was brainless and a filthy furry and to share his sixteen-page dissertation on the game's beauty and symbolism and artistic merit. I don't use deviantART anymore.

Skimming a LP of it on YT was enough for me to be satisfied with it. 'Yep, it's a game. Gooey and meaty.'
