"So, it's no secret that Psyducks have constant headaches due to their latent psychic abilities. However, those headaches go away once we evolve. Our psychic abilites are then concentrated in that gem, so it's safe to assume that gem nullifies those headaches.
We can still get headaches and bursts of psychic energy from external stimuli, though. Just ask my cousins the last time I babysat them."
