The Guests of Livestone

"That was awesome!" Lapas giggled as she stumbled down the stairs.

"Let's ride it again!" Alice grinned wildly as she fell against her friend. "Oof, ha ha!"

The cheetah glanced back at the Dust Devil roller coaster. "Nah, I want to ride the ferris wheel."

The ferret groaned, "Aw, but that takes too long." She checked the brass pocket watch she bought from the gift store. It had a digital readout. "It's two fifteen, let's grab some cotton candy and head back to the main street We can still catch the show."

"Okay, can we come back here afterward?"

"We've got dinner reservations at six."

"We'll have time."

"Yeah, I guess."

They staggered over to the cotton candy stand giggling all the way.

"Aw, look." Lapas pointed at the nearby ring toss stand. "We are not leaving here until I win me a big plush tiger."

"We're going to be here all week, we don't have time now."

"I meant before we leave at the end of the week."

"Can I help you ladies?" the oryx asked.

"Pink, please," the ferret bounced.

"I'm good thanks."

They wandered across the park to the train depot. The model steam engines were the principle means of transport between the amusement park's major sections.

"These things are so slow, why don't they get some maglevs here," Lapas whined.

"It's suppose to be authentic."

"We're not going to make it if they don't hurry up," she bounced up and down on the balls of her feet.

"Here comes one!"

"Oh, no, it's the number five, we want the number six."

"Where does the number five go?" the ferret read the noticeboard. "Train robbery route? What's that?"

"I think its like some ride show thing. You know, they put on this show with people robbing the train and fake gunfights and everything."

"Who comes to Lifestone to watch fake gunfights?"

"I know, right."

"We should go see it after this."

"We should."

"What? Train number seven?"

"There's another one over there."

"That's four. What the hell?"

"No, six is behind it."

"Eee, let's get over there."

Alice took a bite of her candy as they ran across the bridge and down the stairs to the train platform. "No running," an employee said.

"Come on, come on, move. Faster." the girls gestured at train four magically pushing it out of the station.

"Oh come on, " they whined as they bounced up and down waiting for people to disembark. Finally they were let board the open air cars that were pulled behind the small steam engine.

"Come on, come on."

"Hurry, we're going to miss it." The girls' knees twitched up and down as they urged the train to move.

Finally the machine lurched forward and the announcer began announcing tour stuff over the loudspeakers. "Yay, come on, hurry."

When they reached the station at the town section, they climbed out of the car and walked briskly up the stairs and out the bridge over the trains. They headed out of the station and past all the store fronts that housed gift shops, theatres, restaurants, and the like. "Look, you could have gotten your cotton candy here."

"It didn't take that long."

They pushed through the crowd to get to the dueling ground.

"Yay we're in time."

A tigress and an otter stood apart from one another on the cleared dirt road.

The cheetah pulled a piece off the weasel's candy. "I hope the tiger wins."

"She looks nervous."

"Yeah. She'll probably lose."

"I hope she doesn't chicken out. That would suck."

"Yeah, rushing all the way over here for nothing."

The crowd hushed down. The two duelists took their stances. Time dragged out.

The bell struck.

The otter drew and fired.

The tigress fell to her knees, then her side, and finally onto her belly. A moment passed and the crowd went wild. "That was awesome!" Lapas shouted.

"I thought you wanted her to win." Alice bounced.

"I know, but did you see that? The way she just dropped down and fell over? It was like, eh, uh, uh." Lapas mimed with her hands.

They looked back. A human walked over to the tiger.

"What's he doing?"

"Checking to make sure she's dead."

"She's got to be dead."

The judge stood up and gestured with his hand.

"Yep, she's dead."

"That was cool."

"Yeah, let's go ride the ferris wheel, now."
