On the last day of our Central Asia research trip, we had a long layover so we booked a room in old-town Istanbul, just a few hundred meters from the Blue mosque; a sprawling complex that sits directly on top of the palace grounds of Constantine. There is 1700 years worth of history still preserved within these buildings and on the city streets.

That may have been the location of the "Sacred Palace" where Eastern Roman Emperors resided for over 1,000 years. I envy you for being able to see this.
