Winter Wren Cup by tser

Winter Wren Cup

tser

A Winter Wren on a wheel-thrown porcelain cup (no handle). The opposite side is decorated with redwood sorrel (oxalis). I glazed it in my favorite transparent green glaze with a tenmoku brown glaze on the inside.

Winter Wrens are very common in the moist coniferous forests that surround me here in NW Oregon, and they run about through the underbrush like mice when they're looking for bugs to eat. The western Winter Wren's song has 36 notes per second average. It's absolutely spectacular. And extremely loud for the bird's wee size!

Cone 6 oxidation.
