Summoning the Great Serpent by TristanAlexander (critique requested)

Summoning the Great Serpent (critique requested)

TristanAlexander

Well, for whatever reason, the computer now reads my camera memory card, so here is the finished picture I have been working on. This is a so so photo and I will get a better one out in the sun soon so I can do prints of this. After many ideas and no great ones I guess I am calling this "Summoning the Great Serpent", it is 19 1/2 x 16, Acrylic and watercolor colored pencil and ProWhite on Canson board. Original SOLD, prints available.

This turned out so nice!! But I have to admit, as beautifully done as the background is, I actually really liked the contrast between the figures and the brown background in your WIPs <3

Well, you never actually saw anything close to what the background looked like since you may notice how the color changed each time. That is because I had bad photos of it and the color was just never close to right. But thanks for the nice words. I know a simple background makes the figure stand out more but I prefer a setting and not just empty space. :)

Thats very well done. I love the colours and the fact that you have given the characters a home rather then a random area to float around in. I really like how you did the mountains and the scales on the serpent. The grass is a little bit dull for my taste but that may just be the camera *curses canvas too large for the scanner

Thanks. backgrounds are important to me, I like my figures to be in a world not just floating as you say. This is not the best photo but the grass is "dull" on purpose to not stand out to much and because in the natural environment I wanted it to blend not stand out.

yes I find they can make or break a picture. I wish I ha more chances to draw more scenery etc, and nothing wrong with it, its a personal preference thing. its great work
