And here, as promised, is the epilogue to Against All Odds - the very final part of Nate and Alex's tale.
I'd really like to thank each and everyone of you for taking the time to read my first ever novel-length story, for the comments, the critique, the compliments and the support. Without you, I'd not have an audience and thus no-one to write for, so you're all so very much appreciated - far more than this message can likely ever do justice.
I truly hope you've enjoyed the 'journey' (yay, clichés), and I hope you enjoy my future projects just as much. Take a look at my bio page if you're interested in the kind of things I'm planning in the short and medium-term.
So, one last time - thank you all! :)
Good! Sorry that I mistakenly told you that ch. 42 was the final part - i didn't realise at the time what chapter you'd commented on! :P
Thanks once again for reading, and for all your comments - real glad you enjoyed it! ^^
it was kinda hard not to think of praise as I read the chapters.
eventually, I just decided to voice my opinion.
it was a fantastic read, in fact, my heart went out to Alexei as his store burned down, I can't re-read that chapter without feeling like that again and again, and feeling so empathetic for the duo during their separation, now THAT is a trait of a perfect story!
I will say this, I got the idea that the underlying theme of the story was:
"despite size, gender, sexuality, language, tragedy, and all else, we are all equal, so never give up"
was this what you had in mind?
because if you didn't, you made something profound without even realising it.
Well, to an extent, yes :) This story takes place in a world that has huge (no pun intended) differences between its peoples, and with their shared history, it's a world where those people all too often focus on those differences rather than what makes them similar.
Wants, needs, fears, dreams: these things are often shared by individuals no matter where they come from, and rather than focus on this, people often can't see past the often trivial things that make them different.
I think the way you've summed the theme up is a great one, and it's definitely something that held true for Nathan and Alex over the course of this story :)
absolutely; we are all one people, yet we live as if divided. we look only at the surface, unaware that even the most frightening creatures can have a glimmering golden soul.
if more people looked deeper, I think that the world would be a better place.
a utopia for the open-minded and free.
lol, philosophy is fun :D
oh, hey, if you ever do sequel AAO, I think seeing how that squirrel would react to actually meeting Alexei would be interesting, and probably funny, too... that or having Nathan's parents actually interact with the wolf :)
seriously, is it just me thinking randomly, or is shaun just a super-paranoid / Macrophobe? :P
you'd think after Nathan 'surviving' the wolf that he'd be less scared of him... but apparently not.
still, it doesn't hurt the story to include him, that's just my opinion though.
what do you think about all that?
do I have good or stupid ideas?
please be honest.
I'd certainly like to include something like that in a sequel - we'll have to see what time brings with it on that front ^^
Shaun is very much paranoid about Velikans - I do believe there was a line of dialogue somewhere in this story from Tasha stating that "it's his job to be" seeing as he works for a company that has links to the military. I think it'd take a little more than Nate's safe return to get rid of his deep-seeded opinions... and fears.
I think You have good ideas! You've pointed out a few things/meanings that were undercurrents through out, be there conscious or unconscious on my part! :)
(smiling) cool.
yeah, I remember something along those lines, I guess it's logical at least.
and it's up to you whether you want to use the ideas I suggested, you're the elite writer after all :)
by the way, good luck in your search, I hope you can find a good one (referring to what you've been getting stressed over), and i'll try to be patient for your future works.

YES! thank you immensely, tirrell, your suggestion worked!
I'd been looking for the 'epilogue' ever since I finished reading the 'final chapter' so long ago!
once again, literary gold. :)
