Medium: Wax crayons on canvas

Fun with canvas, off-brand crayons, and fire.
I made this piece for a nonprofit center where I worked as a temp for a little while. The shared hallways were very bare, so building management bought paints and canvases for tenants to decorate and donate to the walls. I didn't have the time or energy to paint something with acrylics, but I had had this idea rattling around in my head for a little while, so I went ahead and made this for them. Considering I was working at an early childhood-focused nonprofit at the time, it seemed to fit!
The crayons were an off-brand set I've had since middle school... "Raymond Geddes" I think they were called. I still have tons more that I want to melt into different projects someday.
For the one I have, crayons were glued at the top of the canvas, and then you just aim a hair dryer at it until the wax melts. :D Easy, cheap, and super cool way to decorate a wall.
Basically I hot glued the crayons in place, then used one of those long gas-stove lighters to melt the crayons a little at a time until I had the desired effect. I did have some trouble with ashes/char that I had to remove later--so the hairdryer mentioned below may work out better for you! I don't have enough hair to justify owning a hair dryer though :P

This is really cool! I'm interested to hear the story of how you pulled this unconventional piece off!
