The Northern Giant Horsetail is a living fossil. While not as large as its prehistoric ancestors (which grew to the size of fir trees), and smaller than some South American species that can get pretty tall, these are still good size as North American varieties go. This particular one was about 3 feet (1m) tall but they can reach slightly more than double that under the right conditions.
