Ghostly Coyote Skull by TheSilverCaribou

Ghostly Coyote Skull

TheSilverCaribou

This is one of the salvaged coyote skulls I am working on. (Salvaged means that these skulls were collected from wild animals that had died of natural unknown causes, rather than from hunted animals.)

This is the first finished one of the bunch. Well, almost finished.

This skull came from a young coyote. Not a big skull, but a very pretty one! Pristine with all the teeth present. I did a professional cleaning and whitening job that took about two weeks, then primed and painted it with a glow in the dark layer. =) As of now I am deciding whether to carve it (moon and stars on the dome of the skull?) or paint a black enamel design that will show up against the glow. Maybe a thorn vine, or the moon/stars (painted instead of carved) or a tribal style coyote curled up on the side of the dome, I dunno. If I carve it I can include a little light insert so that the skull can glow internally, with the light shining through the carved openings in the skull dome/brain case. That way there are two 'glow' options eh?

If you have an idea for what to paint or carve on it let me know! I love having ideas thrown at me!

This skull is not for sale, as I intend it as a gift for someone. However: the next skull (who is sitting in 40% peroxide to whiten up ATM) will be for sale. It's a big skull too as far as coyotes go. It obviously came from an old coyote with awesome snaggleteeth. Lots of personality in that skull. I think I'm going to carve and paint that one plus include the light insert. Although an antique stain might be a better choice just because a paint job would cover up some of the personality. It'll be a while before he's done being cleaned and whitened though.
