Singing a Story

The Pink Rose Of Texas

At the Goodwood Road and Racing Club in Chichester, England, the patrons can spend time between races getting up close and personal with the vintage cars racing there, browsing the souvenir shop, or grabbing a bite to eat at the food court. On some occasions, there are also live bands playing music from various genres for the audience.
On this day one of those bands was playing well-known songs from the 1950s and 1960s, and the lead singer sometimes asked the audience if they had any requests. Right away the first person to respond was Abbey Lane, as she ran upon the stage and asked if they could play the song "Beep Beep" by The Playmates. She also asked if she could sing it as well, as "this was also an actual incident that happened to my grandfather when he was my father's age". The lead singer agreed, warning her in advance that not only would she be accompanied by the band, but by some horns in the car park as well. As she took center stage and the band played the intro, she performed the song like this:

🎵 "Beep beep (beep beep) beep beep (beep beep)
His horn went beep beep beep (beep)
While riding in my Jaguar, what to my surprise
A little red Austin was following me, about one-third my size
The guy must have wanted to pass me up as he kept on tooting his horn (beep beep)
I'll show him that a Jaguar is not a car to scorn
Beep beep (beep beep) beep beep (beep beep)
His horn went beep beep beep (beep beep)
I pushed my foot down to the floor to give the guy the shake
But the little red Austin stayed right behind, he still had on his brake
He must have thought his car had more guts as he kept on tooting his horn (beep beep)
I'll show him that a Jaguar is not a car to scorn
Beep beep (beep beep) beep beep (beep beep)
His horn went beep beep beep (beep beep)
My car went into passing gear and we took off with gust
And soon we were doing 100, must have left him in the dust
When I looked in the mirror of my car, I couldn't believe my eyes
That little red Austin was right behind, I think that guy could fly
Beep beep (beep beep) beep beep (beep beep)
His horn went beep beep beep (beep beep)
Now we're doing 140, this certainly was a race
For a small car to pass a big car would be a big disgrace
The guy must have wanted to pass me up as he kept on tooting his horn (beep beep)
I'll show him that a Jaguar is not a car to s corn
Beep beep (beep beep) beep beep (beep beep)
His horn went beep beep beep (Beep Beep)
Now we're doing doing 180, as fast as I could go
The Austin pulled alongside me as if we're going slow
The man rolled down his window and yelled for me to hear
'Say, buddy, how can I get this car out of second gear?' "

The audience responded with a combination of laughter and applause as Abbey took a bow and a curtsy. As she made her way back to the table with her family, a fellow patron caught her attention. "Don't worry none, love," he he told her calmly and assuredly. "Your father and I are driving Jaguars in the next race, and there will be some Austins and other small cars in it as well...and we will show them that a Jaguar is not a car to scorn." Pleased by this news, Abbey gave him a gentle kiss on the cheek before returning to her table. "That was an embarrassing moment for Grandpa and me," her father calmly but seriously told her, "and he made me solemnly promise to make sure it never happened again."
"Knowing how well you drive, Papa," she replied while holding his hand, "I'm sure you can keep that promise."

Abbey Lane was created by "TricksonLee" of DeviantArt and adopted by me. The musical notes were old stickers photographed and retouched with various digital filters, the Jaguar logo came from a model kit, and the rest was drawn freehand.

P.S.: If you're singing along with Abbey, it may help you to remember that the British pronounce it "Jag-you-are".
