Looks like Dolly Melissa's "power of imagination" also works in her subconscious while she's asleep. She's been dreaming of Christmas morning, when she can open her gifts, spend time with her friends and relatives, and enjoy the traditional Christmas treats...especially her favorite ones gingerbread cookies. So imagine her surprise (and embarrassment) when she wakes up to discover she's just become a gingerbread cookie! Of course when her parents see what's happened, they just giggle and give her a gentle hug, knowing they're used to seeing things like this. They assure her they'll make those treats for her and everyone else to enjoy, and gently persuade her promise to wait until Christmas. She then reverts back to her human form and hugs her parents back, murmuring with a smile: "I will...I promise."
