2023 Art Summary (story in desc.) by The Nose

2023 Art Summary (story in desc.)

The Nose

Very late to this as well but here's my 2023 art summary. As a whole, 2023 has been a really mixed bag. It was a lot better than 2022 and especially 2021, but trust me there were some really cruddy times.

Remember the last art summary where I said January is the worst month of the year, and yet somehow that January wasn't terrible? Well, in 2023, it was a different story. For some reason, I wasn't feeling well mentally, and it didn't help the fact that 2 shows I were watching at the time were cancelled after one season which really pissed me off, so I tried to mostly stay away from violent content (which stunk because at the time I just got a Wii and the first game was MadWorld, an extremely violent game), and pretty much spent the whole month playing MySims, which I was extremely addicted to the point of beating the game. It slightly got better later into the month (it was also the month one of my favorite shows premiered its second season, which did not at all disappoint), and plus the memeing and constant roasting of at the time the new Scooby-Doo cartoon Velma was also enjoyable (because WB Discovery is a shitty company and this show deserves all the hate it gets).

I was looking forward to February as it was my birthday month, but somehow it didn't fare much better than January. My birthday was extremely disappointing (though I'll take it over the last birthday), because I didn't get a whole lot of presents and they came in late. The best gift I got was a $30 eBay gift card. Aside from that and the fact my bedroom was rearranged once again, it wasn't a very memorable month.

Nothing happened in March if I remember correctly, other than the fact I got into a Tony Hawk's Pro Skater addiction. I also started to feel affection for Skurge the Executioner from Marvel thanks to Oni18064 on DeviantArt for his redesign (https://www.deviantart.com/oni18064/art/Enchantress-and-Executioner-Redesign-919233258). I shortly made a Mii on Tomodachi Life and he's my second most pampered Mii besides Eggsess.

April was also an uneventful month. The 30th marked the first anniversary of me starting my job at the dollar store, though it wouldn't be until December 12th that I transferred to another store.

May was interesting, because my shitty excuse of a "cousin", who has actually been putting me through so much shit last year by taking advantage of me and my father's conflict by lying to him about things I never did and made me look bad in general, was initially working at Subway before he got fired for stealing money from the register. It was then revealed that he painted not only me but my entire family as terrible people to not only to my parents' friends, but even to each other. Being a manipulative shit, he tried to use me afterwards by being nice to me so I could defend him for future "mistakes". I caught on and eventually got onto him for basically ruining my life and manipulating me, but he even took advantage of that and managed to use it to paint me as a horrible person in front of my step grandmother, in which the last interaction I had with her was when she was so mad at me she wanted to slap me. Why the last interaction? Because 4 months later, she passed away...yeah, fuck my "cousin". Fuck him. I hope I never see that piece of shit ever again.

June brought in Pride Month. I started a project in which I released it a few days before the end of the month. It did fairly well on Tumblr in my eyes. It also just gave me an excuse to draw characters I haven't drawn in forever like Skurge the Executioner, Ubu, Mr. Scratch, and Darkseid again lol. Other than that, I don't think anything interesting happened afterwards. The 30th also brought in the previously cancelled Blue Sky (now Netflix/Annapurna/DNEG) film Nimona, which was really fucking good, and ended up being the first animated film I cried to...embarrassingly.

July wasn't also interesting either. However, it was the month I first started adopting AI-generated OCs (anti-AI activists shut the fuck up I don't want to hear it). The first one would be Permasus, Yello's nemesis. I would later continue to adopt more OCs from here on out.

August was also uneventful. I did however purchase my first digital film off of Vudu, being Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse. Worth the 20 bucks lol.

September was the month my step grandmother passed away. I attended the memorial service but not the funeral, and I think my parents wanted it that way, given not only the last interaction, but my old boss randomly showed up, and the last interaction I had with her left a sour taste in my mouth.

I began Inktober again on October, but unlike last year it was a complete disaster. When I post on Instagram normally, I would get like 3 or 4 likes, however, when posting during that month, I would get little to no likes. I couldn't figure what went wrong. Was it something I said? Apparently, Instagram at the time was shadowbanning users who used hashtags. Why? Apparently Instagram is pro-Islam, and using hashtags in their eyes means you're supporting Palestine, so they shadowban you, even if your hashtag is "tree". I was so bothered by it I basically waited until after October to do the rest of the entries. I don't know if I will ever do this again this year, and if so, I'll have to do it differently.

Because of last month, I ended up privating my Instagram account for a whole month and only made 4 posts. One of them was the debut of RoboJones, which came from a dream of mine. I eventually realized not every follower will come and like your post, and I eventually went back to the public the next month. I planned to do more posts, but my old school-issued Chromebook died permanently, so I ended up having to wait until I had the time to purchase a new one, which wouldn't be until next month.

And as always, we end things off with December. Like last year, I bought everyone presents. My mother got a donut pan, my father got Dragon Age: Origins: Ultimate Edition for the Xbox 360 and The Ren and Stimpy Show: Seasons Three and a Half-ish on DVD, my little brother got a Luffy (One Piece) figure, my middle-aged brother and his girlfriend got a ramen noodle recipe cookbook, and my oldest brother got Spider-Man (not the sequel) for PS4 and War of the Worlds on DVD. I got a Cirkul water bottle and a backpack, and I'm waiting on my brother's present to come in (because Amazon sucks besides Prime Video >-<). I also got some Christmas money, and I used it to get a PlayStation 2, which I have no idea if it works or not because A) I don't have any games right now and B) it seems to be really picky with DVDs, which apparently is an issue with a lot of PS2s, especially earlier models, which the one I got is an early model.

And that pretty much wraps up 2023. A very...very less dramatic (aside from the "cousin" BS) year than before but still kinda mediocre at worst. I don't really have anything to say about 2024, other than I survive to 2025.
